| Grace/Amy Spencer | bob | 08/02/2010 19:58:55 | 0 | |
| Thanks to a lot of help from the tireless efforts of people on this site, among others, I have pieced together the story. Grace was born in the workhouse in Bradford. Her mother Amy had given birth to two children before her, both illigitimate, probably by different fathers. The first,a boy Harry died at 14months, and secondly Ceciley died unmarried at 23 years. Amy had several brothers and sisters, and they came from the Hertfordshire village of Braughing. I have traced the family back to Amy's great grandparents Thomas Spenser c1793-1845 and his wife Sarah Colton c1797-1879. I have been unable to find any descendants of Amy's generation, or what happened to Amy herself. Once again, thanks for all your help. Bob | ||||

| Never ever give up. | Jean | 06/02/2010 10:50:28 | 0 | |
| This advice is from someone who was about to end her subscription with Genes Reunited. After searching for 3 years for my G/Father with no sucess even after sending for numerous death certificates, I have at last FOUND him. I decided to post once again on "Trying to find" A week later I had a Hot Match, had plenty of these in the past. Silly me didn't check it straight away because I thought like the others it would lead nowhere. Any way after 4 days I sent a reply asking just 1 question which was a full birth date, I knew the year. When that came back spot on I just knew before I went any further that this was THE ONE. My Hot Match had only just become a member of G/R. I cannot begin to tell you how over the moon I am to now be in touch with an unknown relative. We are slowing putting together information that the other was unaware of. How lucky am I. He could have joined after I unsubscribed and I would never, never have found this information. Please never ever, give up. My thanks to Genes Reunited. | ||||
| lost cousins found | Carole | 04/02/2010 15:42:39 | 0 | |
| Hi, Just to say never give up hope of finding any relatives even when you know no information. I have just found two cousins of my mums of whom we knew nothing about. My mum is 82 and when her dad died when she was 4 her mum lost contact with his family, so mum knew nothing about any cousins or aunts/uncles. Thank god for the 1901/1911 census's as they gave me her dads siblings names, and so the search was on. Just before christmas I made contact with two cousins and we hope to meet up in March. | ||||
| 1st and 2nd cousin found! | Margaret | 03/02/2010 18:20:36 | 0 | |
| I was visiting a friend in Wales when I heard that I had a 2nd cousin in Menai Bridge, N Wales. So we went to visit her, and she was so welcoming and informative that it was real pleasure, not only to discover her as a relative but also that she was such a great person. She also put me in touch with a cousin in London, who is a very interesting person and is also very informative. So many thanks to GR, and I'm hoping to be able to find more links. | ||||
