I'm having great trouble locating my great-great-grandfather's family on the 1841 census (either together or individually) and wonder if anyone can help.
On the 1851 census they are residing at 5 Capland Place North, Christchurch, St. Marylebone, Middlesex, and the family consists of:
William HILL* - Head - M - born c1784 Mary HILL - Wife - M - born c1807 James HILL - Son - U - born c1835 Henry HILL - Son - U - born c1837 Sophia HILL - Dau. - U - born c1838 William HILL - Son - U - born c1840
All were born in St. Marylebone, Middlesex.
There were three younger children (one of which was my great-grandfather), but they were all born post-1841.
* From his marriage record (1833 in Westminster, Middlesex), I know that William's second name was James.
I know that the family were pretty poverty-stricken. In the late 1840s they entered the Marylebone Workhouse, re-entering again in 1852/3. Both parents died shortly after in the workhouse.
On the record of his son's baptisms (in 1848 in the workhouse), William gave his occupation as "drover".
Any help to locate any/all of the above on the 1841 census would be wonderful!
Many thanks for any help.

Hi Choccy and Stuart ...
Many thanks for your replies - that definitely looks like the correct family!
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find that group of people (the SMITHs, COOKs and HILLs) on the 1841 census on Ancestry - even using the full reference.
Is there any other way I can locate them???
Penny
PS Going off for lunch now, then out for a couple of hours ... but will be back later on!

Have done some further checking this evening, and found that Devonshire Place is included in Enumeration Districts 4 and 15 of St. Marylebone (Christchurch).
None of the individuals recorded above on Choccy's and Stuart's posts are included in the listings for Devonshire Place (I have also checked the numbering of the pages and none seem to be missing).
Please ... can anyone tell me how to find this family???
Penny
PS I'm using Ancestry's 1841 census.

Penny,
Just sent you the image for the 1841. If you can read it then your eyesight must be amazing.
Ancestry has obviously skipped a few pages.
Look at: 1841 England Census about James Duyer Name: James Duyer Age: 3 Mo Estimated Birth Year: abt 1841 Gender: Male Where born: Middlesex, England
And go forward (next image ) from there. You can see where it happens.

Hi Maureen ...
Many thanks for your reply to my post - and also for sending me the census image by PM!
I've looked at my images on Ancestry again and, as you say, pages 11/12 and 13/14 have not been digitised.
I've been able to find the family on the image you sent me (it's always a lot easier when you know what you're looking for!) - they're approximately two-thirds of the way down the righthand page.
Thank you so much for your help in sorting this one out - I only confirmed a few days ago that William and Mary HILL were my 2xgreat-grandparents (after searching for them for about 2 years), so it's been great to find them on the earliest census!

Hi Choccy ...
Having had a look at the actual census image now, I would very much like to have confirmation of William's occupation. I think it looks like "labourer" - do you think this is correct?
Thanks for any help.
