Genes Advisor Report 25 Feb 2013 17:08

Hi everyone,

We had a very successful weekend at Who Do You Think You Are? Live - Hopefully we've attracted a few new members and highlighted the amazing work you do here on the boards.

We are busy identifying everyone who helped on this board over the weekend, and will be extending your membership within the next few days. Everyone who has their membership extended will be notified by email. If you helped on this board but do not receive an email by next Monday 4th March, then please email us at [email protected]

Once again, thank you for all of your help. It is appreciated, not only this weekend, but all year round.

I enjoyed helping, and thank you very much for the extension of membership (assuming I get one :-D ) ............

................... but please, could you make sure that you make a note of some of the comments made to you re how to post requests for help?

And then ensure that the staff next year know what to ask for.

It would make our life as helpers much, much easier if the GR staff did give more guidance to requesters at the show.

Information that should be included, where known, is (but not restricted to) ........

1. Tell us if the question has been asked previously on a GR Board

2. Include date and place of birth / marriage

3. Include known places where lived

4. Include names of parents / siblings / spouse, if known

5. Last known census where found

Time was wasted on several requests in searching for information that had already been found on an earlier thread, or was already known to the requester.

I'm sure that other helpers may have more ideas of information that should be provided to enable us to provide more help to a requester

Agree.

Other than Estelle does any member of the Team use the boards for their research?

I think the answer is probably - NO - going by the problems with the requests
