Dear Andy
I amStill looking for the death certificate of Ada Midgley - aqnd still finding my way around this site!! She was born in Altrincham, Knutsford Cheshire in 1877. The family has always believed that she died in a mental hosp but I am begining to have my doubts and wonder if she went to Canada.

Is this the marriage:-

Name: John Midgley
Year of Registration: 1901
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Bucklow
County: Cheshire, Lancashire
Volume: 8a
Page: 251

Spouse Ada Merrell.

I'd say the death that Andrew found looks like a good bet - the age seems right.

Thank you all for all your help. Finally a great success. Ada Merrell Died in Macclesfield Lunatic Assylum. She went there in 1915 and died in 1919. Such a sad story. My mother would have been twelve and remembered her well no doubt. I visited Macclesfield and walked around the grounds now a beautiful and peaceful place. I would now like to find her grave - any ideas?
Thank you all again,
Elizabeth

I would start with the local authority and ask if she was buried in a municipal cemetery. You have the year and place of her death to give them. Some charge for a search, or, at least, for the information they give you. Most don't charge if they can't find the grave. Many will tell you that the person is buried there for nothing and you can then search the cemetery yourself on foot. This isn't always practical though and there may not be a headstone. Of course, there may be more than one cemetery. You could try to see if any asylum records exist but they are very few and far between. There are also church burial records but I would think these are unlikely to help in this case.

She may also share a grave with another family member so it's worth asking for any other names you think may be relevant.

You've come so far it would be nice to have the last piece of the puzzle.
