Hi I am trying to find Sarah Ann Calvert born in Manchester abt 1868. I have now got her marriage certificate to Robert James Evans & Sarah's fathers name was Reuben Calvert. He was deceased before her marriage in 1892.

Can you help me please. I have tried looking for the death certificate for Reuben Calvert before 1892 but I am having no luck at all. Thanks

Hi,
What census was that one of James & Sarah Ann Calvert? Robert James Evans & Sarah Ann Calvert's first born was Mary Emma Evans born on 22/07/1893 and she died on 13/12/1907 from burns when her clothes caught on fire.

The address is 26 Marple Street and James is a bricklayer, born Manchester and Sarah A was born in Gorton and Rueben in Openshaw

Just looking back for that James and here he is in 1881 but no Sarah!

The IGI has a Sarah Ellen Calvert b 1861 Openshaw daur of Reuben and Mary -I suspect she may have died young and Sarah Ann born tothem later in 1869
In 1861 Reuben is shown as b 1831 Bradford and Mary b 1829 Wakefield and the 1mth old Sarah Ellen is with them b Openshaw
1871 Chorlton on Medlock has Mary Calvert b 1829 Wakefield married ,with a Sarah b 1869 and a James 18 BUT no Reuben with them

Because he is with a "wife " callled Ann in Openshaw! plus 2 more children

In 1891 Sarah Calvert 22 b Manchester is lodging in Cardigan, Wales with Jones family and shown as "connected with the Salvation Army

I wonder if this is your Reuben and the age has been mistranscribed

I can find no corresponding birth in 1881 - 1884 for the above so I think the age is a mistake.

The only snag to this is that I can't find Sarah on any census records with her father Reuben! Presumably you got Sarah's maiden surname from a child's birth certificate?

Oh dearie, dearie me! The plot thickens! This one is getting very complicated!

So Gillian - you don't think that Sarah Ann is the daughter of Reuben and Ann but of Mary and Reuben?

Have you tried ordering that death certificate? It is the only possible one listed on Freebmd.

The Reuben with Mary in 1861 is an Iron Turner and the one with an is an Engine Fitter.

I dont think Sarah would have beeen living with mary in 1871 if she were Ann's child but whether she is Reubens -well who knows?

I got Sarah Ann Calverts name from her birth certificate.born on the 8th November 1869 at 2 Bishop Gate. Mothers name is Ann Calvert formerly Clayton Rutlidge. They lived at 2 Bishopgate, Deansgate, Manchester.

Sorry. The spelling of Roughlidge may be wrong. It could be Clayton Rutlidge
