Find Ancestors

I have been in contact with Janey via email. Initially I sent her a copy of a postcard my grandfather sent to my grandmother in 1910.

On the front side of the card was a delightful picture drawn by him and on the reverse side was a very intimate short poem.

I have also sent her earlier today some photos of my grandfather.

Janey has been such a help in my quest to find my grandfather's origins that I feel she is almost an honorary member of the family :-)

I think that is a nymphet postcard, there was quite a lot of them produced at one time.

Hello Persie, how are you.

my latest avatar is a picture of my grandfather and as the scanned version my cousin sent has "In memoriam" written on it I assume that it was take fairly close to the time he died, which was in 1930 aged 70.

Glad you liked the postcard, and the message. I now know that I am trying to find a person, not a phantom :-)

My grandmother was the artist in our family, I would love to know where a lot of her paintings went and a lot of her other stuff as well. I have a couple of them and some painting on glass that she did. She died six weeks before her 29th Birthday. Not even my mother's generation knew her... when I was small she was this big photo on my grandfather's wall.

You never know: perhaps there is someone like my cousin waiting to be found.

I think that as usual the female members of the family are 'custodians' of the records.

My cousin's mother was my father's sister and kept most of the photo's etc. I never knew about this until we re-established contact very recently.

Alas, there were no papers or records relating to my grandfather's origins.

I am lucky with most of my history especially the direct lines back. Not hard with my mothers with all the inter marrying but some of the cousins disappear.. there was not the necessity to keep records here in the early days.. if you lived too far away or it was during lamb birthing time your birth did not get registered.. and sometimes they would forget about registering a death as well. They were all too busy being pioneers in a new country.

I found my grandfather's sister's death in a church gazette.. all because she was sadly missed .. she used to play the piano in church and the minister talked about her poor arthritic hands and her perseverance.

I know this is an old thread ... and this is a nudge on to my threads

I remember reading this and seeing Janey working ... as she did for many threads

and for me ... She led the hunt for my Fathers origins ... on a thread of some 247

posts and he was found ( he changed his name on marriage to my father )

This is genealogy ... And what got me hooked ....

Before I made contact with my cousin my sole starting point with my search for Clifford was one photo. My cousin's mother (my dad's sister) as is usually the case, had most of the memorabilia.

Neither my father or my aunt talked about their childhood. I do remember my Nan as she was living with us for a time. She was involved in two separate car crashes and on both occasions broke her hips.

After the second crash she couldn't walk and had to wear callipers.

My dad had to carry her up and down the stairs from her bedroom to the lounge.

After the recent breakthrough with my other grandfather, I ain't giving up :-D

I was surprised when I clicked on your link, as I remember logging in everyday to see Janey ( EvieBevie) and the others working and marveling at them

I had forgotten ............ and you reminded me
