HI All..... here we go again, another one!!!

( i just want an easy tree....please) lol

I have my Nan, Ivy Freda Grace Payne.... cert details

Born 17 May 1920, 12 Spencer Road, St Pancras.
Mother Ethel Payne formerly Warby, father John Payne, Railway Platelayer.

I am struggling to find her parents on the 1911 or indeed any census at all...and be sure it's them. I thought i had their marriage cert but i fear it's not them!!

Details are...

17th April 1911, John Payne 29 Batch, Gardener, Hatfield, Father Jabez Payne Gardener.
married Ethel Marshall Warby 28, Spin, no occ, Hatfield, Father John Warby Gardener.

Married at the Parish Church, Bishop's Hatfield.

Witness's Charles Warby & maud S Warby.

Ivy had 1 brother (that i know of) Reginald D Payne, born 2 years previous.

Ivy was married in Cairo and i am still awaiting her marriage cert.

I want to get a bit further back on Ivy's side, i'm not too certain the marriage cert is going to give me anything more than i have already, as she married during the war in a Military ceremony, so the witness's are not going to help me any!

Hey Viv

Well now you see that fits the marriage one.... had seen that, and started to scream at that point, cos of the precise link to the marriage....

But John Payne i have is a Railway Platelayer.... i cannot imagine him being a Gardener only 9 years later? I suppose it's possible?

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 19 Jan 2010 00:11

But but but Viv,

Look at the name of the father (head of house on the 1911) and the name of John's father on the marriage cert!! ...and his occupation!

LOL

Thats why i started screaming!

I was so sure that cert was the right one i've had the data on my tree for 3 years.... my mother gave me the data!!!

I order the cert and i get all this... i cannot find a Payne/ Warby marriage other than the one i have?? Which is bizarre....

But someone may have solved your prob by then of course.

WayneTracey Report 19 Jan 2010 08:42

Hey Viv,

Thanks for that i flaked before you....!!

I'm not discounting this marriage actually being the right one! Maybe he left the railway to please his dad and then by 1920 he's gone back to the railway?

I looked at that John Payne before.... in 1901 being 19 i think he's just not home maybe?

It def needs loads of brain work!

I'm heading to work myself so i'll be checking in as and when i can today!

Thanks for your efforts so far!

Hey Viv.

How weird you reply as i looked on the site.....

I have found an Ethel Warby (without a middle name) as per BC of Ivy, the 1893 one in Ware.... So i've ordered that one.

I can see this being a very expensive hunt!

I still cannot find anything to discount the marriage i found and the birth of Ivy are linked.

FannyByGaslight Report 19 Jan 2010 18:57

When did Ethel and John die?
Do you know?

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 19 Jan 2010 19:01

Nope i know nothing about them at all...... i only knew their names from 3rd hand data!.... Obviously thats been proven by the certs.

My Nan (Ivy) died when i was 11 (she was only 62), so i wasn't really old enough to know stories of the past!

They are a massive black hole for me.... Grrr
