Well he's not in the book so he did not receive a Bar to his MC.

The chap who collated the list I have here is J V Webb. It might be worth seeing if he has published a list of recipients of the MC. There's nothing in this book that indicates that he did although it was published in 1988 so it's possible that he's done some work since.

I've got the name of the regiment wrong it's Argyll and sutherland highlanders .

I've just borrowed a book from the library which lists Bars to the MC plus MCs awarded to warrant officers. (My grandfather is in the warrant officer list although the MC does not show on his medal card.)

The London Gazette should give you the details - there may be two mentions. The initial mention is just a note that the MC was awarded and the second mention gives a bit of detail (not much in my grandfather's case but enough to identify him).

I will have a look in the book tonight - your man will only show in there if he was awarded a Bar - and it will only give his initials but if he is in there it will give the LG date which should help a bit.

I'll let you know the name of the chap who collated the list as he may have produced an earlier version giving awards to officers. That again would give the LG date(s).

I havn't a clue where he was born and I think he was in both wars.i would guess he wasa born C1895 .

The regimental museum is at Stirling Castle... have you also been on the 1914-1918 website? There is probably a thread on there for the regiment..

James - do you know his county of birth? or his DOB ?

There might be a Museum for the regiment. If so, I would imagine they would know his full name.

You can wite to Kew and see if they hold record for him..was he from Scotland?

I'm trying to find his real name he was just known as bob but his title was Major C H Roberts MC .
He was in the Argyll and southern Highlanders 14th army south east asia.

It MIGHT be in the London Gazette, which is name searchable online.

Military Cross (MC)
The Military Cross was instituted on 28th December 1915. It was awarded to commissioned officers of the rank of Captain and below for distinguished and meritorious service in battle on land. Bars are added to the ribbon for holders who receive additional awards of the MC.

Around 37,000 MCs were awarded in the First World War, 3,000 with a bar, 170 with two bars and four with three bars. 306 were awarded to university members, a further twenty with a bar and four with two bars.

I found a family member for someone with the MC.. on his medal card he just was marked "MC" .. I don't think you will find a register of MC recipients.. but if you post his details, we can search the medal cards etc and see if we can find one with an MC and other details that match...
