I have Varty in my tree and my grandma was born in South Shields! Any connections to Cumberland?

The 41 census ages were not accurate.

They were rounded down apart from those of children.

Having said that.....many people didn't worry too much about how old they were.

Sometimes they told fibs too......my 2x great got progressively younger compared with her husband so she ended up in 1881 as the same age as he was.

i think robert and elizabeth mustn't know how old they really are coz in 1841 there is a 10 year age difference but 10 years later there is a 16 year age difference.

There are two births in the area. Likely to be the second one. I see no obvious death for the first in the same district. I had wondered if the first one was an older deceased sibling for the 1866 Elizabeth but she may be a cousin.
