Sheesh i work for 3 days solid and miss it all.

I'm not going to answer anything directly, cos i love my thread and don't wish the whoosh in this direction!!! (us oldies will know what the 'whoosh' is!)

This thread was merely started to help those newbies who answer an old post (usually a single post from the days when we couldn't reply threaded style) ......and then sit there all excited that they have found someone with the smae person in there family and expect an immediate reply!!

I am not saying don't reply onto the thread as such, merely also consider the fact that if someone wrote you a letter 4 years ago and you find the letter again....would you consider writing a reply making reference to all the letter said??? You wouldn't you'd either try calling or try other means of contact. This is the same..... you'd try and pm the person.

A reply onto the post is good, it shows a list of those who all share the same family traits.

I have to say the one thing that makes me laugh above all else....is when an old thread is resurrected and then the oldies start helping to look for data.... it's happened a few times recently.... so it's not just the newbies who don't look!!!

To recap in brief.... please reply onto the thread, it's historically who was looking for the same people... but also to pm the person who made the original post (or even someone from subsequent posts) just to give them a nudge that there is a reply... some wouldn't consider checking for a reply on an old thread they had years ago... !!

Tracey.....

(yes i'm sober, and wanting to be back on holiday ....!!! )

wendy .we are not saying dont answer an old thread but the likelyhood of the person checking a thread they have posted after 3,4,5 yrs i dont think so! so we are saying if you see a very old thread send a direct message by clicking on their name so all we are saying is LOOK AT THE DATE BEFORE REPLYING!! and wayne &tracy offer very good advice

I disagree i have been looking for my relatives for a number of years without any luck so to me an answer to an old thread is better than none and if i see anything i always answer PM and to the thread and hope for the best
