Houston we have a problem ......

Catherine Cairns Long date of birth on the death registration is given as 5 Sep 1922 - I have checked the last two quarters of 1922 for a birth for Catherine Cairns Key there is nothing listed.

So that blows the theory of one the births for David found for you yesterday!!

I wonder if she was born in Scotland? I have no more credit to look for you.

Gemma

Gemma Report 16 Apr 2008 08:55

There is a possiblity the mothers maiden name could have been "KEY"

Gemma

Also, perhaps you could contact:

Local Studies Department
Rotherhithe Library
Albion Street
SE16 7HY
Tel: 020 7525 2000
Fax: 020 7394 0672

They will look at historical electoral rolls for you and you can perhaps get historical data on the address of where your father lived. At least that way you would know how long he lived there for and get full detail on his parents names.

Just found this on 192.com - not got the credits to get the full details though -

Electoral Roll 2002 - 2007

FREDERICK W LONG XX ROTHERHITHE OLD ROAD XXXXXX XXXXXXX
other occupants SYLVIA GAYLE

MERVYN LONG XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXX XX ROTHERHITHE OLD ROAD XXXXXX XXXXXXX
Age guide: XX-XX (?), other occupants JULIE CRELLIN

Can someone look these up and pm info to Gemma?

So perhaps we should now try to find a marriage for Frederick Long to Catherine Cairns - (Cairns a middle name (no idea on her surname)). If we can find that marriage we will then have solved the mystery of the mother's maiden name.

Gemma - you need to ask Jean to see if she can find you Frederick Long on the 2008 Electoral Roll.

Hi Gemma

Is the address a block of flats on the 2003 elec roll it is coming up as John Kennedy House and a William and David Murphy lived there then. .....there was a Fredrick Long at number 58, could that have been his Father?

TinaElizabeth Report 15 Apr 2008 23:21

No such luck!!

Michael Barry Hudson, aged 19 in 1966 and was in the Maidstone/Strood area at that time. Had an Auntie round that area, name not known. And she remembers she thinks his dad in Rochester again cannot remember his name .
All areas mentioned are in Kent.

Thanks Gemma you have really helped tonight.
Best wishes to all who search!

thats good! well good luck & hope it all works out for you... by the way if he has an odd name it might be spelt different to the 'normal-conventional' ways of spelling it.. for example John/Jon/Jhan. . . just a thought

Hi, i do have a good relationship with her but she is very forgetful, i mean 59 is sooooooooo old, NOT.

I don't have clue to were he was born as no reference in that name can be,although a clever genes member did change the first names around and come up with one. I am awaiting the certificate.

Hi Tina, why dont you post the name of your dad from the paper article and a rough estimate of age (i wasnt exactly sure but narrowed down the information) maybe you could contact the paper with the article in it as newspapers archive all there old papers/articles etc...

doesnt your mum know any more information? Seems a little odd, mind you.. my mum has stopped talking to me cause of all this so I know what its like not to be given all the facts, its unfair and as far as I concerned my mother is playing games with my life... do you have a good relationship with your mother to get more info??

I just contacted the social security of the area my bio father grew up in and awaiting a reply.. maybe you could try that or start your own quest, either way i have found everyone on here absolutly amazing and had more support from them and my auntie then I could ever have imagined.

Have you done a search on your name or your mothers as someone could be looking for you!

Good luck

Gemma

I too am in the same situation as Jessie and Gemma.

HI I have very little to go on as well. I tried the GRO years ago and couldn't find a name matching 5 years either side of the year mum gave me To the point i was beginning to think the name was a figment of my mums imagination. She did say he was in trouble and that's why they split.
I went and searched the newspapers for around my birth year and there in black and white was his name and a mention of an unnamed girl,my mum, lol.
However this search didn't turn up any clues or so i thought. I came home and turned on the computer and tried every thread going and Joan Allan ( who has found 8 of my mums siblings, 5 whom were adopted ) but nothing about my father.

I don't know where to turn to, have toyed with the idea of writing a letter to the local area paper but..................

Hey Jessie, everyone on here are very helpful so maybe you can post some more info up and do what I have been doing and cross reference all info people have provided you with... i am lucky enough to have family that can verify some of the info through memories and time ... what has your other half done to find their father? Have they got the full birth cert or the smaller part ??
