Where was he born? As he was born in 1961 one or both of his parents could still be alive. Or you could look to see if he had any siblings, and try to track one of them down.

Gemma Report 22 Apr 2008 19:57

from what I can tell he was an only child, plus both parents are deceased.

Reading back through this, it seems that you know his father was still at the same address in 2003. Do you know for sure that he has died since then? I'd write to the address, so see if he is still there, or if the people there know what happened to him. Or, if he has died, I'd get his death cert, or look to see if he left a will. His son and address might be given on either.

As David Long was born in 1961 I have just searched Marriages 1950 to 1961 for Frederick Long to Ivy Key and found nothing.

Ivy was supposedly born in 1919 for the marriage is probably before 1950. I

I don't see a birth for an Ivy L Key in 1919 though.

Hi Gemma,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems locating your father but I don't give up because I traced my father one year ago and I found him by the electoral register and I found out that he had died 5 years before I tried to find him which was disappointing but I now know my paternal grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins!

Firstly, have you tried this website here? http://www.look4them.org.uk/salvation-army.html

They are very good in locating missing people aslong as you are over 18 they will try to find your father for you! It is free and it does say their are certain conditions in which they don't perform searches for e.g. adoption and where the birth of a child is outside of marriage but it said they usually don't become involved but maybe you could just explain he is definately your father as they were going to help me out and my father isn't on mine either but by then I had found his death certs xx

Don't know why you didn't say before that you had contacted the people at or near the address. Perhaps you only asked the old neighbour about David and not Frederick - don't think you knew his name at the time. Whos is Linda who someone found living at the same address? Was her surname Long?
