Hi Sue,

I know that you've spent quite a lot on certs searching for JJ, but I think the only way we're going to move forward now is to see who the parents are on Joseph Aldridge Meredith's birth cert.

I can't find the definitive link between these two families.

What we know is that Jane Weston/Falconer was the grandmother. We know that Manaretta was related to JJ and we know that the Weston/Falconers were linked to the Aldridges.......................but I've run out of ideas.

I've tried every which way to find the link, but these families are simply impossible to trace with certainty.

Whenever I find a marriage ref or the like, I can't find them on a corrosponding census. They change their names, birth places etc..........I'm just chasing my tail now.

Very odd Deb!

Of course we dont know what Jane Weston's maiden name was - perhaps she was a Haworth?

Perhaps JJ got the idea of fiddling around with his name and age etc from his grandmother!

I'm just going to post this because it's so weird. I wonder what the odds are of these 2 surnames coming together.

All of Jane's children had the middle name Howarth and later in life, they became Falconers.

I don't think this family is linked. It's just odd!

P.S Remember that JJ bumped up his age by a year? His age on 91 census and his age on 01 were slightly out. He added a year so he could join the Navy. No doubt, he stayed with the increase in age for life.

I wonder whether J J Meredith's Seaman's record - with the birthdate of 2nd March 1884 - would tally with this birth reg that Sue & Deb found - I know the year is 1885 - but it could be that JJ didn't know exactly what year he was born.

Would be v interested to see who the parents are on that!

What is also interesting is that there are two boys who are marked as not in household but only by a single / (rather than a // which usually marks a totally different household) George and John Robins both aged 15 (but ages are always rounded in 1841) both born in county - and I found this marriage:
