I'm just going to post this because it's so weird. I wonder what the odds are of these 2 surnames coming together.

All of Jane's children had the middle name Howarth and later in life, they became Falconers.

I don't think this family is linked. It's just odd!

Very odd Deb!

Of course we dont know what Jane Weston's maiden name was - perhaps she was a Haworth?

Perhaps JJ got the idea of fiddling around with his name and age etc from his grandmother!

Hi Sue,

I know that you've spent quite a lot on certs searching for JJ, but I think the only way we're going to move forward now is to see who the parents are on Joseph Aldridge Meredith's birth cert.

I can't find the definitive link between these two families.

What we know is that Jane Weston/Falconer was the grandmother. We know that Manaretta was related to JJ and we know that the Weston/Falconers were linked to the Aldridges.......................but I've run out of ideas.

I've tried every which way to find the link, but these families are simply impossible to trace with certainty.

Whenever I find a marriage ref or the like, I can't find them on a corrosponding census. They change their names, birth places etc..........I'm just chasing my tail now.

If lets say Joseph Aldridge Meredith's father was an Aldridge, he could be one of the sons of Joseph the solicitor. We know he had at least two - Joseph who was aged 6 months in 1841 but cant see him in 1851 and Charles who was 8 in 1851.

So I think we need to trace those two boys!

If we look at the age difference between Jane Weston/Falconer, JJ and Frances, it suggests that she was most likely a great/grandmother. It would have simply been easier to write down grandmother though.

I've been following the two Aldridge brothers for the last week because my gut instinct tells me that one of them had an affair with one of Jane Weston/Falconers daughters and the offspring of that affair was JJ's father.

So, here's the brothers.


Joseph appears in the 1841 with his parents. In 51, he was away at boarding school in Sussex and in 61, he's with his brother Charles. Both are unmarried. Joseph is a solicitor and Charles is an architect. The head of the household is Julian Robbins, barrister born Bloomsbury.
