Mary
I have been through the St Helier death registers from 1930 to 2003 and cannot find any records of any of the deaths you are looking for.
The only one that came close wa a John Marc Noel Richardson between 1981 and 1982.
I will tackle the parishes next but I think that given the possible death dates it is unlikely that at least one of them didn't die in the General Hospital.

Could you see if Brian Salmon died sometime after 1999 if possible?

Ellen Report 17 Jul 2008 21:09

Hi Pam,
Please could you find Birth Registration or Baptisms for Alfred Henry Baker born c1870, St Peter Port, Guernsey and his Sister, Elizabeth, born c1868, also St Peter Port, Guernsey . Their Parents were Thomas Baker born 1846, Long Bredy, Dorset and Sarah Jane (Maiden Name unknown) also born Long Bredy, Dorset, 1848. I have no idea why Alfred and Elizabeth were born in Guernsey. Later Census have them living in Lancashire.
Many Thanks in anticipation,
Regards,
Ellen.

Sorry

Hello Katherine
Sorry it's been a while but I found this one for you
Death
9th May 1880 Thomas Neil, aged 67, Gardener, died of 'paralysie' (which I think is a stroke). Death notified by John Thelland, hospital director.

I haven't had a chance to look for Helena Ashford's birth yet but it's on my 'to do' list.

Just had a thought so looked at the Jersey Archive site and sure enough Thomas's hospital admission record is there. I'll have a look next time I'm there - the Archive not the Hospital :)

Thanks for all your efforts and success with finding Thomas' death. Sorry to be a pain but do you have the reference details so that I can send for the cert?

Katherine
I have found the reference for Tom and Helena's marriage - I will go and look at the certificate tomorrow.

The reference is St Saviour Feb 1869 - Dec 1871, page 51.

I have also looked at Tom's will and if you want me to I can e-mail the gist of it to you if you pm me your e-mail address.

Hi Pam,

I am wondering if you have managed to do any more research on Augustus & Noel Richardson and their respective wives. I have been through Deaths in England and have not found anything up to 2005, so still trying to find anything I can. Do you know of any contacts in Gurnsey who offer similar help to you, in case they moved there and not Jersey? Is there any means of accessing the last two census' information to discover possible addresses, should they still be living on Jersey or Gurnsey?

Any help you can give me to assist my search is appreciated.

Hello Mary

Sorry it's all a bit slow but the Archive here is only open 3 days a week and the Registry Office (where I have to go to look up details once I've found the reference at the Archive) is only open in the mornings.

The only one I've found so far that comes anywhere near is a John Marc Noel Richardson who died between 1981 and 1982.

The other thing to bear in mind is that Richardson is a very common name over here, in fact I went to school with a huge family of them!

I haven't forgotten your request. Unfortunately I don't know any one in Guernsey and I only have access to census records up to 1901.

Pam

Just had a thought - they have old telephone directories at the Archive - I'll see if I can get a lead on them that way next time I'm there.

Hi Mary
I have now been through the records for all 12 parishes between 1930 and the present day and I can find no trace of any of your people.
I also had a look in the telephone directories but no joy I'm afraid - perhaps they moved back to the UK in later life or as you suggest went to one of the other Channel Islands.
Sorry I couldn't help

Hello Pam, Just picked up your reply of 30th July.

Thank you so much for persevering with my quest. I am sorry that nothing showed up. It would have been good for us both. I am still looking. So far found I've found nothing new, although I did find some telephone entries for the Dartford area (which I was told they had left) in the late 1950's.
I'll keep trying. Take care hope you continue to be succesful for other searchers.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 5 Aug 2008 17:50

Hello Pam
If you are able to help find someone who married a relative, that would be great.

He married as Frank Norman BOSSY in 1897 with age given as 29 years ( so b. abt 1868 ) His father is shown as Phillip BOSSY, a master mariner.
I know nothing more about him but wonder if he is shown as 'Francis N.BOSSY,nephew' in 1881. Then his birthplace is Grouville, Jersey.

He married in Sussex and was there in 1901 but what happened to him after that, I don't know. His wife remained in Sussex, but later generations always thought she was unmarried, ....so did Frank return to Jersey perhaps?

Any help to find his origins or later life would be great.

Gina
I'm not sure that I can access such recent records but I'll find out tomorrow. I would have thought that if he was still alive that recently there would have been some provision made for him in his father's will.
