Eleanor Report 2 Jul 2008 16:44

Hello Clair,
I am trying to find a record of a marriage between William Blackburn and Dorothy ?.
William b. 1801
Dorothy b. 1811
1841 Census they are listed at West Moor as follows:

William aged 40 Farmer
Dorothy aged 30
Jane aged 11, (later her name changes to Coner)
Hannah aged 7
Robert aged 5
Dorothy aged 3
William aged 4 months.

William died 1842 and Dorothy married a Ralph Anderson 1844 had 2 more children:
Mary Ann b. 1844
Isabel b. 1847.

Then on 1851 Census they appear again with Dorothy being Head of family.

My question is can you find the maiden name of Dorothy when she married William please?

Can you find a death for 2nd husband Ralph, as i cannot find what happened to him in such a short time.

Would appreciate any info as I am having a hard time here in Aust. trying to find any more details.

Thankyou for your kind offer
Sorry I forgot to say that they were from the Easington district.

Hi Eleanor
My disc has the 1851 census on it so i checked to see where Dorothy was born,(Brancepath)
In 1851 she is still married so Ralph hasnt died yet,
She has also got another child to him, Dorothy born c1849
I found their marriage but unfortunalty it didnt show her fathers name,,

St Mary the Virgin
26-1-1844
Ralph Anderson (son of Anthony) to Dorothy Blackburn(father deceased and unamed)

I also found a Baptism for a William Blackburn

St Mary's Easington
12-1-1842
William Blackburn son of William Blackburn and Dorothy
(West Hordon)
This would tie in with age on the census

I also found a Burial for a Dorothy Anderson
St Mary's-Easington
5-2-1889
Dorothy Anderson age 78
Again this would be about the right age,

Maybe if you have the marriage of Dorothy to Ralph it may show her maiden name,,,or the birth certificate of William ,assuming he is the correct one,

Forgive me if you already have all this info but i thought i would send it to you anyway,
I'll keep looking and send you whatever i can find.

I just looked at the 1841 census,,,
There is Ralph Anderson working on the farm ,,employed as farm servant,,

Hi Claire,

Could you please check for baptisms of Lillian Maude Bradley, (born 1912) and Norman King Bradley (born 1915), Easington Colliery, parents John George Bradley and Florence Ada (Bamford)?

If the disks are easy to search, could you please search for any other Bradley or Finan records in Easington Colliery after 1910?

Many thanks, Norman.

Hi Claire,

Thankyou very much for the info, I had most of it and I guess the marriage certs are the way to go.

I will be in the UK in September for 6 weeks , so may be able to do some checking then.

Is there anywhere in Durham that I would be able to have access to any information? I will be staying with cousins at Cumbria for a while.

Thanks again
Eleanor from OZ.
