Kim Report 11 Sep 2011 12:31

Hello Margaret,
What a kind offer! I have a John WOODWARD, who married Amy DALE in South Newington in 1770. They had four children in Westcote Barton, then dropped off the radar.

John Woodward wasn't born in South Newington, or Westcote Barton and I can't find him on the following data CDs published by OXFHS:
BAN 02, 03 & 04, CN 01, 02 & 03, WOD 02 & 03
Any clues as to birth and burials for John and Amy would be very gratefully received. Amy is, by the way, sometimes listed as Emma - just to confuse the issue!

Best wishes
Kim

Margaret Report 1 Sep 2011 14:44

As Requested By ROSAMUND information about Walter Johnson born c 1849
The parents of Walter Johnson c 1849 were
Richard Johnson who was "Of Woodstock " when he married Anne Drinkwater on 26/9/1836 in Wooton Oxfordshire
witnesses at the marriage were Elizabeth Drinkwater, and Robart Drinkwater (sic)
Richard was baptised 25/7/1811 in Woodstock
Anne was baptised 14/11/1813 Wooton.
Richard was buried 7/6/1855 aged 50 yrs in Wooton

Walter 8/7/1849
Eliza 16/11/1851 whe was buried 15/3/1854 a 2yrs old child.
Sarah 1842 may be the Sarah Johnson who had two illegitimate children baptised in Wooton they were
Thomas 15/6/1862
Elizabeth 15/5/1864
Richard Johnson baptised 25/7/1811 was a Shoemaker and the son of

Richard Johnson baptised 3/1/1781 in New Woodstock Church, the entry was also made in Wooton Register
he was buried 19/2/1844 aged 63 yrs of Old Woodstock in Wooton
He married
Lydia Young 29/10/1804 in WoodstockThe witnesses to the marriage were
Hannah Bull, Grace Marsh,Tho. Tomkins. B. Bennet
Lydia was buried 19/1/1838 aged 59 yrs of Old Woodstock in Wooton
Richard and Lydia had the following children baptised in Woodstock
Edward 22/9/1805
Philip 25/2/1807

Philip John 20/1/1809
Richard 25/7/1811 who married Anne Drinkwater
John 26/9/1813
Joseph 20/3/1816
Robert 6/9/1820
Sarah Ann Anna 3/12/1823
Richard Johnson baptised 3/1/1781 in New Woodstock Church was a Miller of Old Woodstock.

The parents of Richard Johnson 1781 were
Richard Johnson of Wooton as stated when he married in Long Combe Oxfordshire 6/3/1780 to
Sarah Gunnis The witnesses to the marriage were John Gulliver,Ann Hill.
Richard Johnson as above was buried 16/2/1801 in Wooton
Sarah Gunnis was baptised 27/5/1759 in Long Combe daughter of Josephe and Ann Gunnis he a husbandman.
Sarah nee Gunnis was buried in Woodstock 14/4/1807.
Richard and Sarah had the following children baptised in Woodstock and Wooton
Richard 3/1/1781 in New Woodstock church, also put in the Wooton Register
Edward 19/3/1783 baptised in Woodstock also put in Wooton register
Sarah Ann 23/3/1781 in Woodstock living Old Woodstock
Philip 22/10/1790 Woodstock
John 30/11/1792 Woodstock
Joseph 5/2/1796 Woodstock.

I cannot find a baptism for Richard Johnson who married Sarah Gunnis..anywhere...
But there is a possibility
Richard Johnson of Old Woodstock married 5/6/1735 in St Martin Oxford City, or the thought he did, because on the register the cleric puts
"A couple from Woodstock, but who they were I do not know, Not marryed by me" Yet the Oxfordshire marriage disc gives the marriage as 5/6/1735 St Martins Oxford..
Richard Johnson as above married Susanna Nevel in St Martins..perhaps...
she was I believe baptised 1/9/1709 in Adderbury daughter of Richard Nevill.
They had the following children baptised in Woodstock and Bladon
Catharine 6/4/1739 Woodstock of Old Woodstock
Martha 30/10/1741 Woodstock father a Miller of Old Woodstock.....
Rachel 4/3/1742 Woodstock father a Miller of Old Woodstock
Elizabeth 18/5/1744 Woodstock
Susanna (on register as Shusanna, as is her mother on the Adderbury Register when she was baptised) 14/11/1746 in Bladon born 15/10/1746
Catherine 1/9/1749 Bladon born 30/8/1749
Ann 29/5/1751 Bladon born 3/5/1751
As you can see from this
Richard and Susanna did not have children baptised between time of marriage and 1739.. that's a long time for then, so perhaps they may be the parents of Richard Johnson who married Sarah gunnis, and baptised him somewhere in Oxfordshire that I haven't found.. Hope this helps.Margaret

More Clack info needed :-)

Can you see if there is a marriage for an Ambrose CLACK to a Martha - possibly about 1795 ish ?

They appear in the 1841 census aged 70 born in county, but I am not sure if they are Clack or Clark but think it is Clark !

Edit to add

Also a baptism for :_
Elizabeth HANKS -she married Richard Clack at Longworth in 1798 and is "of Eynsham"

Many thanks
