LEE IN OZ

William Reynolds married Susanna Bathe 16/9/1828 Piddington by Banns
Susanna was buried 11/5/1758 ie Susannah wife of William on Register.

they had
John baptised 23/8/1729 Pi8ddington
Elizabeth 23/4/1739 as above
Vincent 25/4/1742 as above who married Elizabeth Barret Piddington 13/10/1823

William Reynolds married Elizabeth Chappell of Hardwick Bucks in Bicester 6/5/1718

they had
Mary Baptised 24/5/1719 Piddington
William 11/2/1721
John 31/1/1724
Elizabeth 5/6/1731 buried 20/11/1733 Piddington
Jane 7/4/1733
Thomas 25/4/1736 who married Mary and had Thomas baptised 19/5/1762 buried 11/4/1768 and William baptised 3/10/1763 also others probably.

You will see that both sets of parents named children John and Elizabeth. There are burials of John Reynolds in Piddington 9/5/1728
Elizabeth Reynolds bur 28/4/1728 Piddington

There is only one burial for a William Reynolds in Piddington it being 13/1/1766 but which William it is I have not the faintest idea.

I cannot find a burial for Elizabeth nee Chappell Reynolds from Hardwick Bucks, I have looked for a remarriage after 13/1/1766 when one William Reynolds was buried but cannot find one.

There is no record of a marriage for John Reynolds and Elizabeth buried in Piddington as above on the Oxfordshire marriage disc.

So here we have it, two William Reynolds breeding at the same time, perhaps cousins as they both name children John and Elizabeth, with the mutual John and Elizabeth not married in Oxfordshire.

What a muddle. Margaret.

Hello Margaret

Thankyou for offering to do these lookups. That is very kind of you.

I am looking for the baptism of my GG Grandad JOHN PRINCE. He was born in Witney 15/12/1851. He took his mothers surname. I have his birth cert and no father is given. I am hoping a father will be named on his baptism record.

Thankyou in advance.

Regards Paul

Hi Margaret,
Thankyou so much for that, i really appreciate it.

it is definately a muddle. I will now have to carefully try and decipher which William Reynolds is mine. I can also see by that why a distant relative i have been in contact with may have been confused by thinking the 2 marriages were for the same William.

At least now i wont be bored over the weekend..

Thankyou again very much.

Regards
Lee:)

Hi Margaret,
Thank you for your kind offer.

Could you look for a baptism for Martha Gearing about 1786, or maybe a bit earlier ?

Her death certificate says she was born in Wallingford, and her father was Thomas, but I have only that information via her son-in-law who registered the death.

John Prince was baptised at St Mary Witney Oxfordshire 23/12/1851 sadly there is no father given on the transcript, if Penny Eves offers a look up at the Oxfordshire record office, why don't you ask her to look at the Parish Register to see if the vicar made a note on the register that has not been transcribed. All I can offer is which you probably already have is
Mary Ann Prince married St Mary Witney 24/12/1853 to
David Faulkner full age bachelor of Stamford in Vale an Inn Keeper, father Thomas an InnKeeper.
Mary Ann a Minor spinster daughter of William Prince a Smith witnesses William Prince, Louisa Prince.
According to the census William Prince was born Abingdon and Mary Ann in New Brunswick???? her siblings born variously in Berks and Oxon.

There is a baptism for
William Prince St Helens Abingdon 6/6/1813 son of William and Mary Prince a sacking manufacturer living Vineyard (Mary buried 26/4/1814 St Helens Abingdon aged 36 yrs of Vineyard)
William Prince remarried 10/10/1814 St Helens Abingdon to Ann Goodall.

Hope this is of interest. Margaret

Margaret

Thank you for doing this baptism lookup.

What a shame there is no father given. At least i have his baptism details now. I forgot to say that John named his grandad William Prince (A Farrier) as his father on his marriage cert.

I shall keep a note of the William Prince baptism from St Helens, Abingdon for future reference. Thanks.

Yes you are correct on all the details about Mary Ann Prince. Mary although born in Canada was baptised 26/4/1835 Buckland, Berkshire.

I have access to a members tree on GR who has Mary Ann Prince's father William Prince baptised 24/11/1805 Abingdon. His parents were John Prince baptised 6/10/1675 Abingdon and Mary Simms. This John Prince's parents are Lawrence Prince and Elizabeth Smart who married 19/12/1762 Marcham, Berkshire. I hope this info is correct.

How do i contact Penny Eves.

KAREN

I can find no baptism for a Benjamin Brock as such in either Lower or Upper Heyford. Caulcutt is in the parish of Lower Heyford.

There is however a baptism for

Benjamin 24/6/1821 Upper Heyford, son of Benjamin Bagot and Sarah Brock of Lower Heyford. Baptised as Bagot.

There is a Thomas Brock having children baptised in Upper Heyford but no Benjamin, he starts having children baptised with Frederic 1/4/1827 Upper Heyford his wife was Joanna.

Sarah Brock of Upper Heyford marries Thomas Bateman of Lower Heyford 25/10/1823.

Hope this is of interest
