Wonder if this is your Albert Claud Popple?

West Yorkshire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1813-1922 about Albert Claude Popple
Name: Albert Claude Popple
Birth Year: abt 1887
Age: 22
Marriage or Bann Date: 30 Aug 1909
Parish: Horton, All Saints
Father's Name: Frederick Popple
Spouse's Name: Elsie Elizabeth Hill

Lists father as Frederick (presume his Grandfather) and this would have been so as to have a father listed rather than Frederick really being the father. He wouldn't have wanted to shame his mother. Often when father was unknown a Grandfather or male relative would be listed as father.

Will check to see if this is your Albert later....for now going back to Doris.

OK I accept that. It looks as if Claude Albert was born out of wedlock to Georgina. He would be about 8 when she married John, so was he the father? Don't waste any time looking into that as it will probably be untraceable. This is becoming more complicated the more information I get.
Not surprised about the Mr Baxter the lodger's occupation, all the Sharpes worked for the railways.

I think you have misunderstood me. The 1901 i have posted for Doris is a mistranscription error. It is the Sharpe family...but there name has been written down wrong. Please note the Popple step son there and the record i posted of his baptism.
There were many errors in the census records. Names mispelt, misunderstood and transcribed wrongly. I am certain this is your John and Georgina.

Michelle thanks for this information. I have looked at what I have got, and I am sure that Reginald Richard Dexter is not the Reginald R Dexter who married Doris Sharpe. My mother is sure that Doris was widowed when we used to visit them (she is 95 and memory plays tricks at that age). I have done a mini tree, leaving out unnecessary entries, to make the relationships clearer. I don't know how to attach it to this thread, So I will try to send it through the message line.

Wonder if this is where the confusion has come re Reginald and his wife? Maybe it was his mother Fanny who was left the widow?

I do think this is your Doris, as there are no other deaths that look right

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005 about Doris Dexter

Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1952

And I do think Doris Sharpe is this lady

Page: 262 (click to see others on page)

Which looks like a good match to the death record.

And if you are certain Reginald married a Doris Sharpe. Then the man who married her was Reginald R Dexter as the record below shows:

You need now to get certificates to ensure you are correct. I would advise getting 1 of the children's certificates to ensure you have both parents correct. Then to obtain the marriage of 1922 to check for both of the father's names of the couple. With this information we could then check 1901 to see if this is your Reginald:

Also i have checked the death registers and I am pretty certain he did not die in the 1940s-50s. There are no deaths in that area in that name. I even checked using Richard and using just Reginald. Could it be possible as it was so long ago, that the information of Doris being a Widow by 1950's being incorrect?

If you could explain your family link to them it would help me. I presume from your surname you are related to the Sharpe side?

This is the 1901 I found which looks to be the Reginald R Dexter in the records I found:

I have found this man on the 1901 census and I can find out more.

What you really need to do now is to obtain the marriage certificate if you are certain your Reginald married Doris Sharpe. The marriage would show his age at marriage and the father's name and occupation. With this information I can be certain then we have the right man.

You mentioned in your message a mini tree? I did not have that attached in the message you sent me.

Will wait to hear from you, before i go further with this.

Ellen

I have been looking all evening so many possible sightings but not able to prove any. Either William isn't there or the occupation doesn't match or they cannot be found on the 1881. So i have had about 8 tabs open looking at records!

The problem we have with this family is the lack of detail from the 1901. If we had a birthplace to work from this would help hugely! Although looking at the birth records there are none that really match your Stephen(Samuel)?

I have found a family in Essex with a son Samuel around the right age with a father William and I have been looking at this. But no birth record to match him either! There are a couple of Stephens staying with relatives which i have also been looking at. It is a matter of searching every census for the 2 names we have William and Stephen (also Samuel) and following through any possibles to eliminate. This is why it takes time. Then looking for spelling errors (which census records have many)!

So back to the drawing board i go...... and don't worry I am still working on this and will tomorrow also (off work tomorrow!) :-D

Hi Michelle, the name Samuel came from his youngest son's marriage certificate It stated that his father was Samuel Andrew Palmer??? But that may have been written in error????!!!

Thanks for that Chris! :) Wow after reading the thread looks like a really tricky one! But i am very stubborn so i will keep looking and looking! Interesting i found all the people mentioned in the previous thread and the Greenwich one stuck out to me also!

Ok back to searching and searching. One quick question Ellen, where did the Samuel name come from for Stephen?
