Martin,

First things first no I do not charge I do it for the thrill of the chase!!
I have nearly completed my tree and enjoy helping others who are stuck and need help breaking those brick walls!!!

Unless you subscribe to Ancestry, Find My Past etc then come on here and ask for help with cencus info this saves you alot of time finding children and also parents, the problem is they only cover 10 year periods from 1841 ~ 1901 and we are all sat waiting for the 1911 cencus to be released later this year.

A few free sites that will help you are

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

But these will really only help you as you get further back.

There are loads of others but these do help.

Can you tell me where your father and grand father were born and died.

The more info you can give me the less work I have to do and the quicker the results!!!

Martin,

Right pooooooooooooo!!!

What was your grandmother's name?

Also do you know where & when your Grandfather died?
And am I right in thinking all their children were born in India?

Martin

Martin Report 7 Jan 2009 19:52

Kirsty.. whats with the Poooooooooooo ?
Sorry to be so vague, I dont know much about my dads side unfortunately...
I have my fathers uk passport, Born 1st August 1929 in AHAMADABAD.
I was told a long time ago that my father came over to UK with his brothers and sisters when he was 10 and lived at an address near Twickenham.
Family gossip is that my grandfather served in the British Army in India { we have a British Army medal, inscribed on the side; Lance Corporal P R PENMAN. Bombay Railway }
We think that, possibly, whilst he served there he married an Indian lady, I do not have any details on her at all.
Regards
Martin.....

Martin,

pooooooooooooooooo!!! ~ was because this is going to be hard!!

I have asked someone to look on the incoming passenger lists for me to hopefully give us some more information.

I can't find a birth for your grandfather so I am thinking he was not born in the UK.

I am going to try and find his death which at least will give us his age.

Kirsty,,,,,
So.... my dad, LAWRENCE, born in India, came to the UK in 1939, with his mum and brothers and sisters...... perhaps later joined by his father PERCIVAL, who remarried an ELSIE WOODS ??!!
i wonder what happened to EMILY ?
We used to go and visit his sister NOREEN in Hanworth and i remember her husband REGINALD GARROD...
I also fondly remember CLARENCE and PEGGY,, all now passed away.
SOOOOO much to think about and take in...
Im just going to have a think for a few mins,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
thank you

Hi Kirsty
I have been talking to my sister about VERNON PENMAN, my fathers brother... my sister remembers my father talking about his brother who died young... apparently his died as a result of a snake bite....!!!! OOPS
PERCIVAL RICHARD PENMAN served in the British Army , we have his medal.. on the side it recalling it saying Lance Coprporal { LCPL } P R PENMAN Bombay Railway.... I'll try and get it from my sister and get some more detail...
