Well worth playing around with various search terms.
I found a photo of the upstairs front room, taken in the 1960s, of a house that an ancestor occupied in the late 1800s just by putting in the name of the road.

I know that this is the other side of London (Edmonton not Old Kent Road) but it is interesting nevertheless,

and if you click the 'advert' link in the blue shaded box near the bottom of the right hand side it takes you to a Drapers ad (a Miss Murphy, also not SE London)

If you have a name for the shop(s) (often they used a surname) then there might be someone who can find another link somewhere.

It is likely that your grandfather left a Will and the shops would be named there.

I have been off the site for a while and it has changed somewhat. I went on the Southwark Museum site but I think I need to find out some more information from my cousin about the locations of the shops. Also I'm not sure what they were called.Thanks for your help

I would try the Southwark Local Studies library. They are normally at John Harvard Library in Borough High St near London Bridge but they are temporarily in Peckam while John Harvard Lib is being re-built.

I was told that my grandfather owned 7 shops in the early 1900's one in the Old Kent Road and they were drapers. Are there any museums which I can visit which include maybe pictures of the area in the early part of the century.
