I have only just come across this thread when I 'googled' Wiliam Thomas Asher Day. You may have, by now, sorted out the W.T.A. Day ancestors, but I thought I would add what I have discovered as it took me a while to sort out where each W.T.A. Day fitted in to my husband's tree!

I will start with my husband's 4x Gt. Grandfather, William:

William Day (1754 - ) married Mary Ashur (1764 - )
They had a son Asher (1793 - 1828) - I do not have any siblings for him.

Asher married Harriet Coxhead (1797 - 1840). Husband's 3 x Gt Grandparents
They had - Charles Day (1819 - 1860)
Elizabeth Hodson Day (1820 - )
William Day (1825 - 1889)

William Day married Elizabeth Rawlins (1828 - 1852) 2 x Gt Grandparents
They had - William Thomas Asher Day (1847 - 1918)
George (1850 - )
Elizabeth H (1851 - )

W.T.A. Day (1847) married Matilda Lydia Church (1854 - ) Gr Grandparents
They had - William Thomas Day (1874 - 1931)
Matilda (1877 - )
Edward Charles (1879 - )
Henry James (1860 - 1933) Husband's Grandfather

W.T.A. Day (1874 - 1931) is the chap who married Florence Hammond

Most of the Day men worked in the leather trade, from bridle cutters, harness makers, collar makers (for shire horses) and saddlers. Husband's GF and GGF worked at some stage with the horses used for pulling the Lord Mayor of London's Coach. Henry James Day ultimately had his own coach trimming business in Bournemouth, where he specialised in re-covering leather seats, as well as such things as the leather straps across the bonnets of Bugattis, and other vintage vehicles.

I hope this has helped those who said they had hit a brick wall!

I am confused Karen (lol)

I think it would be best to update your message with the names of which William married who and in what year and also the area. Also the year of birth. You could then see if anybody can do a census look up for you

I.e. Florence Hammond married William in Shoreditch in 1894
year of birth for Florence and for William. (I think I have listed these above if correct?)

the 1901 may give some info.

PaulaW

PaulaW Report 3 Feb 2009 11:15

Karen as you can see I have posted birth for William Day but reading your email this appears to be the years they married??

I have search for an Edith Pimblott married to William Day and I can't see anything.

Have you got them on any census or have you got the marriage certs??
