SORRY. I seem to have upset Grumpy, I assure you it was not intentional, just ignorance, I am old and not very conversant with the computer or the rules of the site but Vivienne and Evie Beavie together with Ann of Green Gables are teaching me , now I dont feel quite so ignorant and hope soon you will understand me
Kind Regards
Evelyn

I E Mailed apac enquiries on 3/3/09 and 4/3/09 I received this reply,
I have searched from 1904-1908 in our Indian Birth/Baptism records but sadly we do not hold a record of your mothers birth.

If you want to know where her father was at the time of her birth, you need to look at his service records which may tell you. They will be at the National Archives. I think this is the 3RD time I've said this with no acknowledgement

Grumpy

Grumpy Report 11 Mar 2009 20:04

what was diana's birthday?
how old was she when she died?

annielaurie, acknowledgement is nothing to do with me but it appears at the moment we cannot even confirm he was who he is supposed to be let alone confirm he was in the army if we could it would be the easy route?

this sort of confirms her spelling of the name
Marriages Jun 1929
MacLeod Diane L Roy Wandsworth 1d 1009

His daughter said he was a Major. Her birth cert apparently says he was in the Seaforth Highlanders, so this would seem an obvious thing to check, as it's the only info we have on him.

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 11 Mar 2009 20:49

I have seen my mothers marriage certificate and it gives her father as Robert Macleod , Major Seaforth Highlanders ,deceased.
She married my father Herbert Robert John Roy in Wandsworth in 1929 and died on 28th July 1953 in Weymouth dorset.
Mum was 46 when she died

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Mar 2009 20:49

her marriage cert says seaforth highlander, not the birth cert.
thats what this is all about,
finding the birth cert .

Grumpy Report 11 Mar 2009 20:51

hi annielaurie we are just going round in circles? we don't know if he was who he is said to be? it's only hearsay although from a good source? evelyn has visited the fort and the museum of the seaforths all info destroyed in fire, he was deceased by 1929 but cannot find him any where if the archives are about him can we prove it, evelyn knows as said before he was deceased by 1929 but did he die in the war or after?
i agree at the moment the only info we have is the medal card but will it take us any closer to finding out where and when his daughter diane was born?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Mar 2009 20:56

i have just downloaded the medal card and it says his first theatre of war was ,,france,,
and has no info of age etc on it whatsoever
in fact there was hardly anything on it at all

was plain ann now annielaurie Report 11 Mar 2009 21:07

Sorry, of course it was her marriage cert - so many posts on here I didn't look back through all of them! I mean that finding out about him would hopefully lead to where she was born at least, which would make searching easier. His records might also give his wifes name. Doesn't matter about Seaforth Highlanders records going up in smoke - his records may well be available elsewhere. The medal card doesn't tell us anything apart from medal entitlement and it might not be the same man anyway.
