Do we know when Robert left the Army and when and where he died ? :-S

Have just looked at the Medal Roll for the India General Service Medal of 1908. 1st Battalion Seaforths are included but there is no officer named Macleod or Leslie. There's a Private R Macleod, Regimental no 9801, with remark "Sent home to Army reserve" His records, if they have survived, might be on FMP or even Ancestry.

I have had a look at the newspapers this afternoon searching Stornoway and MacLeod 1900 - 1953

I did find a mention of Isabella who was 107 when she died:

To be honest I would leave the Aunt Kate thing well alone for now (just a personal opinion of course :-) ) Aunt Kate could be anyone from either side of Diane's family and the surname is just a guess, so much research went into looking for Aunt Kate and she couldn't be identified.

I am more than happy to do bmd and census look ups at the reg office .

Getting a bit confused however .There have been several ages given for aunty Kate's death . 107 104 and I think I remember 91 at some point .Also from memory I thought Evelyn said it was in the paper early 50's

I've been involed in this post since the beginning.

recently I did a lot of research on the Isabella MacLeod who died aged 107

I have never in that found anyone connected called ROBERT

problem is that some of the offspring married other MacLeod's so very difficult to follow through
for instance
Catherine Mary MacLeod dof Isabella married Kenneth MacLeod

I have put some of my findings on a tree on ancestry tree is called "Isabella MacLeod"..there are several other trees with her in.

Did Isabella leave a will in 1945? those dates not available on scotland people.

I went mad on scotlands people and have loads of data
however I am of oversaeas for the next month so unlikely to have time to send the data to anyone. if someone Pm's me their email address I will try to send the data.


A long shot is to try and find out where Diane was getting she money from prior to marriage the allowance she was getting. Was there a solicitor ..maybe the practise is still going and has archives..her bank account???

If you look back near the beginning of the thread you'll see my thoughts on where the Seaforth Highlanders may have been at the time of her birth
I think more likely Egypt...or South Africa

if in India , Robert Macleod should have got the India Medal from that time, however I have not been able to find the right register/index to look at at the National Archives.

Has anyone looked at the MacLeod family living across the road from Evelyn Goddard Fenwick, they are there for a number of years. Evelyn is at number 42 Foulser Road and Patrick MacFarlane MacLeod and his wife Norah Douthwitt Maud MacLeod live at number 31 Foulser Road. Can't find their marriage though if anyone wants to have a look. This is Patrick at home with his parents before his marriage to Norah. I can't find Patrick in 1911.

Chris Ho I done a bit of research on Kathleen McDowall last year and never came up with much although what I can say is there was a small link to Scotland. Kathleen's mother was Janetta Blair born Devon and her father James Blair was born in Glasgow, Scotland, he was in the Royal Navy and the family ended up in Liverpool, Devon & Kent. So to summarise Kathleen McDowell's maternal grandfather was Scottish and met his wife Esther in Liverpool and had around 7 children. Between 1891 and 1901 Esther left her husband James Blair to live with a man called George Rome in Kent and she went on to have two children with him. Anything else I can post just ask, I have all the censuses related to the Blair & McDowell's saved and if my memory serves me I was in touch with FBG about what I found last year.

I have looked at Dafforne Road which as Chris says is near Springfield hospital..
Also Khartoum Road is very near St Georges Hospital..


Just funny that the 2 addresses that are known are both within walking distance of a hospital.
