I think that the 1941 Ishbel had a sister called Barabel too born in 1934 stornoway also.
Now what are the odds of that coincidence.
I cant prove that they are sisters, but they must be related I would have thought.
Barabel is even less common than Ishbel.

Is the next dog Barabel?go on I dare you!!
Those dates would be too late to be mums cousins but could well be children of the cousins, I was born 1932 so they would certainly be the right ageto be the cousins children

Unfortunately, Viv, that's an outdated ER listing.

More unfortunately, this seems to be the reason.

Name: Ishbel Ormiston
Birth Date: 30 May 1941
Death Registration Month/Year: Sep 2004
Age at death (estimated): 63
Registration district: Chiltern
Inferred County: Buckinghamshire
Register number: L12D
District and Subdistrict: 327/1D
Entry number: 153

However, Douglas seems still to be on the ER, living with his son of the same name, so Evelyn can ask Whirley for that listing.

Buggritts about Ishbel, but thanks for checking it Janey.

No the next one is Leroy, his dad is Denzil and grandad was Winston.
Scottish terrier this time ,see I even get flipping scottish dogs!

Ok the next girl can be Barabel, that will be a west highland white we have decided.

Him indoors will shoot me with all these strange names that he cant remember,I call him my little goldfish as his memory is so bad.
He still calls Ishbel ,Ishabel or meisha.
Evans knows what he will call a Barabel

Evelyn Report 15 Jul 2009 17:12

Thats that sorted then, all we need now is a Diane Macleod.
I think Barabel would probably be Barbara in English, do you?

Unfotunatley I do think so and its not one of my favoured names, but in the form of Barabel its better.

I had a right dingdong with mother on the name Ishbel.
She said it was a boys name and certainly wasnt scottish for isabelle, but came from the bible.
Then we realised she had misheard and thought I said ISHMAEL.

Ishbel and Barabel aside I bet you know your Mums origins, so you are one up on me.

FannyByGaslight Report 15 Jul 2009 17:24

BTW Janey.
I have just had contact from distant relatives in Canada through Ancestry,my mothers line on her Grandad Herbert Heads side, some of them were sent out in the early 1920s as home children.
I dont suppose you know them do you?

LOL

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 15 Jul 2009 17:33

Her origins yes,but her mums on her dads side was a long haul, and expensive in the end, what with her being illigit an all.

OH Noooooooooooooo
I just realised even Leeroy has some of your names in it.

I now go to lie down for a while.

I think we will end up finding Diane to be illegitimate as well, which would explain the Private income up until her marriage.

Their name is Smith, Viv??

Why yes, they're the family of my mother's mother's sister's husband, Uncle Charlie, the Barnardo's boy!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 15 Jul 2009 17:53

I have tried tracking Jean and katherine {ishbels sisters}with that in mind, but have got nowhere.
If she was born in India maybe she was a missionarys daughter.
Or of course a soldiers daughters, daughter and used her grandads name on her marriage cert,as many illigit did knowingly and unknowingly.

FannyByGaslight Report 15 Jul 2009 17:54

Well there we have it then Janey,a link to us being related as the girls were also Barnardos kids.
Edit ,,,my illigit grans half siblings,my ,this lark does turn up some rum stuff

Ok I own up.
I have done nothing much for the past few days as I have felt like C**p,terrible headache and wishy washy.
But Ishbel has her new toy called Leeroy and is very pleased with him she is too.
She is being so gentle as well which is good as he is only 8 weeks and very stumpy on the legs ,whereas she is now 5 months and very lengthy in the leg.
Mind you he takes no nonsense and soon tells her off if she offends him
Scottys are so assertive, more stubborn really and just do their own thing.

Back to the bucket and cloth for the forseable future now there is another piddlepants with extra jobs in the camp.

How many does that make Viv?
I hope you will soon be feeling A1
