No,but the military station he was at in 1896 was

And they were married in a Presbytarian church.

And he was Army medical staff,no corps thing given on cert..
Sorry I am rubbish at army stuff.

FannyByGaslight Report 17 Aug 2009 15:05

I have had a TOTAL flip out.

The brides name was JESSIE Macdonald on cert ,not Alice.
Where did Alice come from?
Sorry folks, looks as though the transcriber got her mixed up with the next lady down on the page, who was an Alice but not a macdonald.

Traciey Report 17 Aug 2009 15:13

I'm not too good with Army things either but if they had a child the service number would be on the childs cert thats why I wanted to find a child. I wonder if previous census of Robert and his family would give us a clue to potential childrens names.

FannyByGaslight Report 17 Aug 2009 15:18

Now I know why I discounted that Robert Macleod before

UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960

On Dianes marriage in 1929 she says her father is deceased and this one was still alive then.
He and Jessie were heading for 67 park road chiswick.

FannyByGaslight Report 17 Aug 2009 15:24

But of course she could have lied!

Traciey Report 17 Aug 2009 15:27

I see but on the otherhand, my husbands x4 grt grandfather put on his marriage cert that his father was deceased as he had been told he was deceased by his grandmother, infact I found him very much alive. We must try other avenues, I wonder where he died? And where was his wife Jessie when he returned!

Edit, Ok I got all that lol

FannyByGaslight Report 17 Aug 2009 15:32

Name: Jessie MacLeod
Birth Date: abt 1874
Age: 60
Port of Departure: Jakarta, Indonesia
Arrival Date: 16 Apr 1934
Port of Arrival: Southampton, England
Ports of Voyage: Jakarta, Singapore, Colombo, Algiers, Genoa and Villefranche
Ship Name: Marnix van Sint Aldegonde

She seems to have Mackay as a middle name on the image, there was not one on her marriage cert.

Traciey Report 17 Aug 2009 15:37

If they did have a family they probably stayed over there as they would be grown ups by 1934 and doing there own thing. I wonder if this couple moved back due to older age.

I beleive Diane must have had brothers and sisters somewhere. But where is anyones guess!

Be back later.

FannyByGaslight Report 17 Aug 2009 15:38

Already looking

FannyByGaslight Report 17 Aug 2009 15:44

They dont seem to be on SP deaths or transcribed deaths on ,,freebmd,,

Well ok there is this one.

And that is not her.

Evelyn Report 17 Aug 2009 16:48

Hello Folks,
I wish I could help re Dianes private allowance, I have no idea where it came from, I only know of it through my Grandma Roy, she said that up until her marriage my mother received a private allowance that stopped when she married. I have no idea how it was paid, it always made me wonder if she was illeg. and that was the pay off?
As regards Diane telling lies YES she did often.I think thats why this is such a puzzle.
Viv I still think the Tarbat family are the ones, I dont know why, just a feeling in the water.
No one in the family ever met or spoke to any of Dianes family, Why? what was she hideing?
Thank you very much for all your help I do appreciate it

FannyByGaslight Report 17 Aug 2009 17:11

I think they are too Evelyn and wish there was someway of getting there for a while to really search, but I can find no way of doing that in the near future.
Im going to find it hard to get to Somerset at the end of the month for fathers 81st as it is.
Gotta go, its feeding time for all and sundry on the ranch.

Traciey Report 17 Aug 2009 22:38

Its no easy job this one is it Evelyn, but sometimes some leads just need to be followed through if only to rule them out. Its a shame we don't have any concrete evidence. I know you have said your Mother(Diane) never spoke of her Mother but did Diane ever give any indication of what age she was when her mother passed away, and did she ever mention if she had met her dad or when he died. I know Robert had seemingly died before Diane was married. What age did your mother say she was when she came back on the boat from India. You have said Diane told lies, on what scale did she do it, was she a compulsive liar or do you think she done it to cover up that she was illigitimate. Have many things running through my mind and one of them is that she was not born Diane MacLeod but I think we are all thinking that. Did you contact the other School Records place in Stornoway?

Evelyn Report 18 Aug 2009 15:58

Thanks again for your interest in my quest, Diane (my mother) Never ever mentioned her mother neither did she say when she came back from India, she didnt have much to say of her father either but I have always assumed that it was him and posibly her mother that she lived with at Fort George in Inverness, that is an army barracks where Seaforth Highlanders were stationed, maybe her mother died whist they were at Fort George, perhaps that was why she was sent to live with her Aunt Kate, who I really believe Viv has found but we cant prove it.
People from the Tarbat Discovery centre have been in touch with India and they have been told no records of either Diane or her father can be traced.
I wonder if her name was Diane Leslie Macleod or was she plain Jane Smith. Diane told lies about so many things on an almost daily basis, what was she trying to hide, she seems to have managed to hide whatever it was.
No I have not managed to trace any school records
Kind regards

Traciey Report 18 Aug 2009 21:06

I wonder if Diane was taken on by the MacLeods and looked after as an adopted child. I find it very strange of a woman not to speak of her mother or her father and then further more not mentioning if she had any siblings. It makes you wonder if she was an only adopted child maybe the parents could not have any. We cannot find a birth of Diane and/or any school records so it makes you think maybe she was taken on as a child and then had her name changed and also the bit about her being born in India was thrown in by either Diane herself or she could of been told this by the adopted parents so that she could not find any birth certificate. All these maybe's lol.

Evelyn Report 18 Aug 2009 21:34

That all sounds feasable Tracey, but how to prove it. I just dont know.
I still think the Macleods that Viv found in Tarbat hold the key
