FannyByGaslight Report 15 May 2009 16:04

Yep sean ,those stumpy ponies are the nastiest little blighters going in the equestrian world.

no death of frank has been found I think

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 May 2009 16:02

Fell off a cow ... I dunno, there's just something inexpressibly ... something ... about those words.

I've broken bones falling off a tricycle (yes, embarrassing when you're 5), a piece of playground equipment, a sidewalk and a driveway. Yes, I fell off a driveway.

You know what we need? A summary of true facts to date. I'll volunteer. Not just now, as angry clerks are nipping at my ankles to get my work (and their bite is worse than Shetland ponies, trust me). On the weekend. The true facts about Gertrude and Frank, to date. As we know them.

Wonder who registered the death?charles?
Who she was the widow of?

Oh and Sean,if you werent drunk when you broke your ankle how DID you do it??

Mistycat Report 15 May 2009 15:39

Oh Viv.....you also had a LUCY....

Sorry Sean could not help myself...

Cant type for laughing

Misty x

Ment to put...I cant fine Lavina after her birth!!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 15 May 2009 15:11

LUCY our other favourite cow would let us suck the milk from her when we were pretending to be calves, well what child needs many toys on a farm.
Health and safety would have a field day with it now!

I have checked trees on here and ancestry, but no one has Lavina.
The only off putter is that she has atkinson for mothers maiden name, but after all the fibs etc that have gone on in this family I wouldnt be in the least surprised.

It may be worth Sean investing in that marriage cert of atkinson and birch to see what it says for her father name and occupation.

Mistycat Report 15 May 2009 14:59

No No, Please dont leave me on my own Viv.....I cant fathom that one out all alone!!

Do you think it's a poss?

Do you know, I cant for the life of me, remamber what happened to Paddles...but DID cry over a few more, including Milky Way Cow...who, yes you guessed...loved to eat Milky Way's...

The thing's we farmer's daughter's did as children....Happy Day's!!

Our escapee from everywhere was called Houdini,
even walked back to the farm from 6 miles away the same day she was taken for a bit of extra grazing just before calving.
He put a head collar on her tied her up in the cow shed with the chain round the neck aswell
pushed a big hayrack against the dooor after closing it and yep
There she was in the yard in the morning
Dad had her until she was 25,and then one day the arthritis had hit and she couldnt get up.
A very long life for a dairy cow.
And yes, we did all cry.

Hunting and gymkhana for me from age 10,even made it to the prince phillip games one year.
Father was a MFH before i was born so i guess its in the blood.

Your doing well with the maces now misty, all you have left now is to fathom what happened to lavina,if she is lou.

Mistycat

Mistycat Report 15 May 2009 14:40

Mine was Paddles because we couldnt keep her in at all, she could escape from any where, then used to paddle about the farm!

I got my first pony at 11, used to hunt, point to point, show jumping and coss country....only local to me...never made "the big time" but did ok.

Sold my last horse about 5yr ago, after a nasty fall, never been on one since...it hurt's to much and takes to long to heal, now I'm old!!

How fantastic...your Dad still hunting at his age, must keep him fit, put's me to shame!!

Sorry Sean went off subject there..down memory lane!!

Her name was Little jane as her mum was big jane, desperate for a pony I was.
Lucky father is into horses too, still rides out hunting{bad word now}sometimes aged 83.
I only raced on the flapping tracks of wales.
And after that smash it was the last time I ever raced on a galloper,I stuck to my lovely trotters and pacers thereafter.
Did pretty well with them too, even if I do say so myself!
I just used to ride for people though, never owned one myself, but I did own riding horses/ponies up until 2 yrs ago and now dont have the land so I sold them all.

So no mending of motor cars for a while then Sean.
As a child of 8 years old I fell off a cow and broke my left wrist badly, bones sticking out etc,you get the picture.
Best bit was I was due to be fitted with a tooth brace, but didnt need it as I had knocked my teeth into line at the same time.
The dentist wrote up about it in his dentistry mag as he was so gobsmacked by it.
I wished it had been my right wrist so I coulnt do school work.
As a 21 year old I came off horse in a race and had 12 of them go over the top of me
Smashed RIGHT wrist,broken nose
,no front teeth, after all that hard work of knocking them straight as a child
badly sprained leg ,bad back, and severe concussion.
Be careful what you wish for as a child.

I couldnt work for three months and even my best friends didnt know me when they picked me up from the hospital cos of the state of my face,it did go back to almost normal though in time, thank evans.

Sean, a man after my own heart. Me, I break feet. Actually, foot. Same foot, same bone in fact, same place, 5 years apart. I'm about due again this summer ... I don't need to break the leg or elbow again, I hope. Maybe we're related!

Now go back and read all the info about Gertrude Mace that Mistycat found. That is your Gertrude Mace. There isn't any doubt left.

Sean, hope your ankle coming along ok

This is a very long shot !!!

Marriage March 1913
Atkinson Gertrude A Birch Newark 7b 811
Birch William E Atkinson Newark 7b 811

Birth Dec 1914
BIRCH Lavina Atkinson Doncaster 9c 1874

Could Gertrude have moved "near" Worksop with Charles and remarried...

Would Lou be short for Lavina???? Lav would not be good!!!!

Misty x

No No No....best ignore this..surely, IF, Gertrude had married again to Mr Birch Winnie would have put Birch all over Charles's birth cert....would she not?
