Hi Jacqueline,

Would it be possible to do a couple of census look ups for me please, for 1861 and 1871 it is for a John Wilkinson he was born c.1859 in the basford area of nottingham, i have his marriage certificate and i believe his fathers name was Isaac wilkinson but it is very had writing to read.

It is also possible from family information that he had a brother Richard but not sure how accurate this information is.

I hope you are able to help.

Kind Regards
Emily xx

Kiwibird Report 6 Nov 2011 07:52

Hi Jackie, Have just found The Marriage Entry for Abraham Cross and Mary Barlow 10 July 1886 St Peter, Great Bolton Parish Records on Lancashire Online Parish Clerk. It shows both Father's and their Occupations and her Sister and her Husband were the Witnesses.
It Shows Abraham's occupation as Collier which explains his death at such an early age.
Am feeling extremely happy that I have finnaly broken through this Brickwall.
Once again many thanks for taking the time to help me out.
Warmest Regards Josephine :-) <3

Many Thanks Jackie,
no wonder I could not find or connect Mary with a Frank.
Peter's Birth fits in with those dates , and I can now discount Nellie and Sydney who I could not find anywhere.
My Grandfather wrote down all he could remember about his family before he died,in 1967, but as he emigrated to NZ straight after WW1 and did not keep contact with any of his family in Lancashire. He has caused me many headaches over the last 8 years trying to find the relatives he had written down. As I have found many of them not in the generation he had listed them.
Great Great Grandma is my last major brick wall.
Thank you very much for your help I can now start looking afresh.
Warmest Regards Josephine
:-)

Hi Josephine,

Here she is with her mother in 1871. Father not with them, her mother is listed as married and it looks like candlemakers wife (or something like that) In the original Berlow is actually reading as Barlow

Okay I think she may have been married to Abraham (probably just known by the name Frank to suit themselves)

Marriages Jul-Sep 1886
CROSS Abraham Bartholomew Bolton 8c 340

I have had a look at the original of Mary's entry and it actually reads the same as Abraham ie 8c 340

Marriages Jul-Sep 1886
BARLOW Mary Bolton 8c 310 (this is what it reads on FreeBMD transcription)

Deaths Oct-Dec 1887
Cross Abraham Bartholomew age 22 Bolton 8c 281

It will probably be worth getting a copy of the marriage certificate from gro.gov.uk
I know they send abroad
Just use Abrahams details when ordering certificate, as Marys are down wrong as I said

Hi Jackie, hoping you might be able to help.
One of the brick walls in my tree is my Great Great Grandmother she married twice. I have no problem with the details from her second marriage to my Great Great Grand Father.
The problem is with her first husband and how many children she had to him before being widowed.
Have not been able to confirm any of the info I was given by my Grandfather many years ago.
Here Name is Mary Barlow b) 1868 3rdQ Liverpool, Lancashire, her Parents were Joseph Barlow and Deborah Megson.
She Married Frank Cross possibly in Bolton 1887
And accordingly had 3 children Sidney, Nellie who both died in infancy and Peter who I found in The 1891 Census and is the only child I can
confirm.
Please could you see if there is any record of Sidney and Nelly and anything ie; Birth, Marriage, Death for Frank Cross.
Any brick out of this frustrating Wall would be most appreciated.
Many Thanks Josephine
