H Viv,

There is mention of "Uncle Ronald " and "Uncle George" at the beginning of the thread but on whose side of the family? Have found a birth and a death for a Ronald L Gore in the Cheltenham area but unfortunately it is not an uncommon combination of christian and surname. See below:-

BIRTH
Jun 1922
Gore Ronald L mmn Gore Winchcomb 6a 721

DEATH
GORE Ronald Louis born 22-MAR-1923 CHELTENHAM 22 1594 DEC 1985 12 85

again, they may be different people as the birth is a year out!

or this one:

BIRTH
Mar 1932 Gore Ronald C mmn Ward Chipping N 3a 1842

DEATH
GORE Ronald Cyril born 18-FEB-1932 CHELTENHAM 479/1C C72D 151 Oct 2005

also these two:

Births Sep 1907
Gore Ronald William Poplar 1c 520

Births Jun 1931
Gore Ronald mmn Gore Winchcomb 6a 576

WINCHCOMB REGISTRATION DISTRICT

Registration County : Gloucestershire.
Created : 1.7.1837.
Abolished : 1.4.1937 (succeeded by Cheltenham and North Cotswold districts).

I was hesitating putting them on the boards as I didn't want to confuse as well.

Hi Annie,
As you have been in contact with Patricia Gore, would it be possible to find anymore information from her? Perhaps she is able to tell you the names of her grandparents ( Yvonne's parents)and this could help in finding Yvonne's roots. Does she actually know where Yvonne was born?

General Nursing Council for England and Wales: Registration: The Roll of Nurses
Covering dates 1944-1973

Add further information to this Catalogue entry on Your Archives or see what other users may have written

...............................................................................................................

DT 10 contains the bound volumes of the Register of Nurses (SRNs) 1921-1973. Although the Register was opened in 1921 it includes details of nurses who had qualified previous to this. Printed nominal indexes are held under references DT 10/1-56 . DT 10 also contains the list of nurses which was opened under the 1943 Nurses Act to allow those who had failed to register under the provisions of the 1919 Act to do so (DT 10/201 ). The Roll of Nurses (SENs) which was opened in 1944 is held in DT 11 . Both male and female assistant nurses, as they were called then, are included on the same Roll, but assistant nurses who worked in mental hospitals were not deemed to be eligible for inclusion. The change in the name to State Enrolled Nurse took place in 1961. In 1962 the Roll of Mental Nurses was established. The covering dates for DT 11 are 1944 to 1973 and printed nominal indexes are also included (DT 11/1-9 ).

Both the Register and the Roll contain information of use to the family historian and both are open without restriction. The type of information given includes: full name, qualifications, where the individual trained, and home address. Any alterations to this information may also be recorded, such as change of name upon marriage, change of address, date of death and any removals from the Register of Roll on disciplinary or other grounds.

Just thinking out aloud about Yvonne May Gore and the fact that a birth cannot be found so far.........................do you think that perhaps she might have been born in another country? I do not have any idea how to find out though! Maybe , as a nurse, she came over to help during the war and met Mr Greenhalgh? Sheer speculation!

Does anyone else on the boards know where to go next?

If the birth certificate did tie up with the death certificate, then I would purchase the possible first marriage of Stanley E Greenhalgh to Emily G Jones. If the given father on the marriage certificate matched the father on the birth certificate then you would know again if you were correct. BUT i wouldn't rush into it before establishing whether or not the birth and death matched up first.

Maybe others on the board have other thoughts on this and could advise you accordingly.

Hi there Annie,

If it were me, I would order the death certificate for Stanley Edward Greenhalgh for a start. Then perhaps take a chance on a birth certificate for him. You know that I lean towards the Stanley E mmn Birdwhistle and that is because apart from the birthdate being one year out on the death reference all the rest appears to fit with your opening message ie Welsh connection, initials S E. Also note that on all the possible records that you have established so far, he is always Stanley Edward and not just Stanley. If on the birth certificate the date of birth is 27th June then you would know if it was correct. Of course, you could land up spending £7 on a wrong one!

It is highly likely that his birth was registered in the 3rd qtr (Jul-Aug-Sept) as his date of birth was at the end of June and.........it is just as possible that the person who registered the death got the year wrong by 1 year.

Birth and marriage of YVONNE MAY GORE as yet not found.
.................................................................................................................................................

I think that all the other Jones/Gore/Greenhalgh combinations are red herrings as the only mention of a Jones into the equation is a possible first marriage of Stanley Edward Greenhalgh to Emily G Jones in 1937.
Forgive me if I am speaking out of turn, but I think that the thread is now getting a little confusing. Perhaps it would be wise to wait for the certificates to arrive before any more speculation.

Annie

The Oxford Dictionary of First Names suggests the spelling is Gwladys or Gwladus, an old form of Gladys. Sure enough if you search freeBMD Births for Gwl* Jones those are the two main spellings that come up, with the occasional Gwladya. It is a very popular name - I tried searching on just Gwl* and there were too many results to display!!
