HI Viv,

Not sure I'm going to bother looking for a death for Emily. Did someone say they had looked earlier in the thread?

I'm going with the assumption she must have survived because that's why we can't find a marriage for Yvonne.

That birth for Penelope seems to be the only Greenhalgh/Jones birth in the area since their marriage in 1937. Could be she was adopted because the marriage was over, OR, because Stanley was away at war the Penelope wasn't even his!

Think that middle name is Gresley. Looking on Ancestry for Gre*ley Jones the only matches are for the name Gresley.

Siblings for Emily?

Births Jun 1910
JONES Arthur Gresley St Asaph 11b 305

Births Sep 1914
Jones Dorothy G Cornwall St.Asaph 11b 566

Births Dec 1915
Jones Frances M G Cornwall St Asaph 11b 474

Births Sep 1918
Jones Florence G Cornwa St.Asaph 11b 505

Hi guys-

Will sort out certs this eve, (am at work at mo!!) I did search for emily's death under jones/greehalgh. No match Loads of just Emily, but no Emily G (surname)

Is there any adoption registers i can look at? Or find out where this lady might have gone? I know this is one of 'those' subjects I've seen threads which turn in to a war AND I AM NOT TRYING TO CAUSE A DEBATE, I am just a new researcher who knows not where to start....

Also i would like to see if Yvonne could have been adopted? Just to rule it out for my own sanity.

Thank you once again guys, you are all so kind to me- without your endless research and help- I'd have a blank tree.

Thanks

Annie.
On adoption you will get no where unless you are the adoptee or the birth parent.
So you will have forget that one I think
Although I could well be wrong ,but on here that is what I keep seeing on the subject..

It did go through my mind that Penelope wasnt Stanleys,I think that is the most likely reason myself.

FannyByGaslight Report 2 Jun 2009 13:14

Just to add,
I really dont think Yvonne was adopted,I think you have her birth cert.

FannyByGaslight Report 2 Jun 2009 13:30

And also Annie.
The lady may not know that she is adopted, many dont, and think how you would feel if someone went blundering in if it were you.
Please be very very careful with that one.
I wouldnt help on it,even if I could, out of consideration for her.

Ann-Marie Report 2 Jun 2009 17:30

No I do also agree, It is one of those subjects-

I just was unsure if there was a place where adoptees could go looking if they wanted to find there family kind of thing. As She may know and not know where to look for her family, As she was born in Wales, presumably adopted in Wales, London is a long way from Wales.

Not a problem, I will skip that idea, I'm going to do a DM for penelope and see what comes up!! Still working!! :( and its soooo hot here!!!!

Thanks guys

Hi Annie,

Got the images thanks.

On Penelope's cert. Stanley's profession is Musician but I can't read the numbers and letters above. Is it some Army regimental number?

The witnesses to Stanley and Emily's marriage are:

J F Greenhalgh - brother John Frederick
Elizabeth Jones - Emily's mother?
Dorothy Gresley Jones - Emily's sister.

I have blown up the numbers on photo shop to try and decipher it is says a number (i think 3) Norfolk Ave Prestatyn (its a street in wales)

possibly an address? as in next box it says the same addy...?

the writing above- ne1/1ho3a1n RNR

I will post back with info! Still puzzles me about Yvonne- why would you lie about your age for? (to be younger!?) i would understand older but this is puzzling... I know it is her deep down, but just don't get it!!

Annie,

That's great. I was trying to figure out what RNR stood for. Hope that number makes sense to them.

You should be able to figure out if Penelope was his from his service records.

I'm not happy about Yvonne's birth cert. either. You'd hope the day and month would match at least.

Royal Navy Reserves (RNR) Which means due to his post (musician) he was on a school boy pay, and was not needed all the time0 he did not sign up for any service time. There has never been any mention of Stan being in the army-

but i think that because he was hardly a 'war hero' that might be why? i dont know.

Rose- I know what you chedmean- at least with Stan the day & month matched. It looks too suspect, I have found a website for Colwyn bay and I'm talking to people there. as it was not that long ago, people are still alive

I'll see what comes of that. I also want to see if any of the people (bros and sisters) are still alive? as they would know wouldn't they.

So that is where I am searching now- and awaiting for Navy records to come back.... I'll update info as i find it.

Thanks guys!!

Elvina Evon/Yvonne May wasn't the one who made herself younger..........it was whoever registered the death (Patricia) and just maybe they got it wrong.

Ann-Marie

Ann-Marie Report 4 Jun 2009 21:19

Ah- thats a point!! :) didn't think of that!! as her place of birth doesn't match, i thought though for death certs details had to be correct?? Isn't it a legal document?

But why use a dif bday? thats a bit weird....

It could be pat getting it wrong again- but it was a day that she always celebrated but again this is according to pat- she had it written on her calendar.

I dunno bunch of wollys this lot eh? cant even get a name or DOB right!!

Pat reckons she has a marriage lines somewhere, I have urged her to find it as a matter of importance but she seems to be quiet closed about it all, like she doesn't want me to dig? as there are wedding photos....

Thanks

Beginning of thread suggested that she was born in Cheltenham? Then this place of birth is not incorrect.

Toddington Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (is not far from Winchcombe)

From: Winchcombe, Gloucestershire
To: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Distance: 7.6 miles

also

Details are only as correct as the information given by the person registering the death.
