There is a british phone book entry for JH Newlands from 1972 to 1982. I am sending the info to you privately.

Interested in Jeanie names. Have you tried researching Hughes and Kesson. They look very much like family names. This is another area where Scotlands People research may be of use.

Still finding lots of Milnes going to and from Canada.

Hi again i managed to find out a little more about the people i am trying to trace!
First of all some of the dates ae wrong.I was told that they left Britain at the end of 1957 heading to california and that margaret had family there.
this means that John and the girls would have come back to britain from california in 1958/9.
I also found out an address for them here in Britain!
John and Margaret married in 1952 sep 26th. In Townhead Glasgow.
i have an address that they lived in in 1956 - 310 kennedy street Glasgow! And another address in which their second daughter Jeanie Hughes Kesson Newlands was born 133 Barlornock Road Glasgow.

I hope this information turns something up, as i need all the help i can get .
thanx

There's always cold calling.

BT on line has 3 E Newlands-s and a half dozen J Newlands-s in and near Glasgow.

It's possible that John and/or Elizabeth is still living. Unfortunately, the daughters probably have different surnames now. Oh, for the world of the future when women stop doing this!

Hi GJ, Not having much luck with Margaret and Elizabeth Milne. Have searched in several areas that usually yield results. I noticed that you have a tree search for them on GR. Have you sent queries to those people who match your search criteria. For example putting in Elizaebth Milne 1928 give or take 2 years gives you 4 matches. Click on the names of the tree owners and ask your questions. Then do the same for Margaret and John.

There are a few name matches for voyages to USA however the dates are not correct. Could there have been older rellies who made the voyage.

There is one search option that probably will give you the information you require and that is a site called Scotland's People. The downside of this is that it is a pay per view site. If you are determined to find the information you are seeking I would suggest registering with that site. Just google Scotland's People and go from there. I have done a preliminary search and the names Milne and Newlands do come up in the search.

You can search the statutory registers for births and deaths up to 2006. Marriages is only searchable up to 1933, which doesn't help. However you are able to apply for certificates if you wish.

I have tried the LDS site and there are some matches for Scotland for the Milne name but in earlier years. Would you have the names of Margaret and Elizabeth's parents.

Don't give up, there will be a way of finding out this information. I've been in the same boat as well. Post any further information you can no matter how unimportant it might seem.

OK I AM LOOKING FOR MARGARET MOIR MILNE WHO I THINK WAS BORN IN 1929 GIVE OR TAKE A COUPLE OF YEARS IN THE GLASGOW AREA.

SHE HAS AN OLDER SISTER CALLED ELIZABETH MILNE KNOWN AS BETTY ! ALSO IN THE GLASGOW AREA.

BETTY WAS A MACHINIST AND MARRIED A MAN CALLED ? HUNTER (SORRY DNT KNOW FIRST NAME)

MARGARET MOIR MILNE MARRIED JOHN NEWLANDS ( BORN1929-90) THEY LIVED IN THE CENTER OF GLASGOW AND BOTH WORKED AT CARRICK METALS

THEY HAD 2 DAUGHTERS
MARY NEWLANDS BORN 1954 AND
JEANIE NEWLANDS BORN DEC 03 1956

MARGARET AND JOHN TOOK THEIR DAUGHTERS IN 1959 AND SET OFF FOR A BETTER LIFE CALIFORNIA,

UNFORTUNATLY THIS WAS NOT TO BE AND JOHN RETURNED TO GLASGOW WITH HIS TWO DAUGHTERS IN 1961 LEAVING MARGARET BEHIND IN CALIFORNIA.

SHE RETURNED TO GLASGOW A SHORT TIME LATER I THINK IT WAS WITHIN 6 MNTHS OF JOHNS RETURN.

Margaret Moir Milne
Betty Milne

Both born between 1928 - 1932

Betty married Mr Hunter and worked in hosiery

Margaret married Mr Joh Newlands and worked in Carricks Metal Works

Betty and Margaret emigrated to California in 1959
Returned to UK in 1960-61.

If this is correct, Questions.

Is Milne their nee family name
Did they go to California under their married names and return under their married names.

Did their husbands go to California with them.

Did they return to Scotland (from California) or to somewhere else in the UK
Was Betty's given name Elizabeth and did she have a middle name.

Do you know the name of their parents.

?????????????? Question marks to put where they belong!!
