Hope someone can help, if anyone has access to the UK Incoming Passenger Lists 1878-1960, could they please look up Minnie Nelson born 1873, Shanghai, China. I believe she came into Liverpool sometime between 1878 - 1891.

I am also trying to trace another famly who came in from Shanghai probably around or after 1910 into London. Would the passenger list tell you who was travelling in the same party?

The family are called Watts-Evans. The father is on the passener lists for the 1920's and 1930's but he was a rep so this would be due to his job. As far as I know the wife, 3 girls and possibly a son came to this country sometime after 1910 from Shanghai and I think they may of dropped the Watts part of the name.

I have found on the UK Incoming Passenger list 1878 - 1960, a Mrs W Evans, a Mr W Evans and three children under the name of Child W Evans x 2 and Infant W Evans into London and am wondering if there is anyway of knowing if this is the family I am trying to trace? Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Vicki

Many thanks for looking those up Jim, although this is not the family I was hoping it was, it is good to know that for sure, so I really appreciate it. Two of the girls in my Watts-Evans family were born in 1903 - Gwynfryd Watts-Evans, Shanghai and Dilys Watts-Evans (possibly christened Isabelle Dilys Watts-Evans) in 1906, there was also a younger sister Iola and a brother who was possibly the oldest. They are still eluding me! I have tried numerous ways of tracing them and not had much luck. I think their mother was a Mary Williams or Pearson, definately her first name started with a M!

The Minnie Evans you found in 1901, is my Minnie, again she is eluding me pre coming to this country and marrying my Great grandfather and again I have posted on here trying to trace her a number of different ways. I thought the Minnie Evans on the UK Passenger list might shed some light but obviously not my Minnie.

Thanks also for your look up Karen, all help is much appreciated.

I apologise for not replying sooner to you both but I have been art work all afternoon and can sit down and relax now the kids are in bed!

Thanks

Vicki

Hi Karen

I am trying to trace Minnie from birth to the age of 17, so pre coming to the UK.

I have found her marriage, infact one of my cousins was able to dig out her marriage certificate for me, so I know her father was called Andrew Nelson and she married Thomas Rogers Evans in 1896 in Carnarfonshire. From her marriage onwards I know quite a bit about her. Minnie was my gt grandmother but she died in 1919 in her 40's leaving 3 young children. My grandfather was only 10 when she died and didnt talk much about her other than times they spent on board their father's ship and that thier mother taught them. Family gossip has suggested she ws half chinese, plus she is on he 1891 census living with her aunt mary Thomas. I would like to try and trace Minnie's parents as Mary Thomas is also an aunt to Thomas Riogers Evans which would make Minnie and her husband first cousins. I think Minnie's mother was possibly a sister of Mary Thomas' husband (Captain Willaim Thomas). Its all very confusing. I was hoping finding her passage to the UK might provide some more details.

Hi Karen, yes that is correct, this is my gt grandfather and 2 of his 8 brothers visiting Aunt Mary Thomas. I have also really confused issues! Jim replied to me as well and he found Minnie in 1901 married to Thomas R Evans, so your Minnie in 1901 is a different one. Once Minnie Nelson married Thomas Evans I know quite alot about her. It is details from her birth as Minnie Nelson born 1873, Shanghai to her marriage in1896, that I am trying to find. I was hoping there might be more details on a passenger list etc.

As far as I know her father Andrew Nelson was a mariner so if Minnie travelled to England on board her fathers ship would she be listed under the immigration records?

By the way the Mabel Pearson you have mentioned also on the 1981 census is a niece to Mary Thomas, her sister Annie married a Mr Pearson, the other 3 girls also on this census Ada Pearson and Lillie and Mary Williams are half sisters and all daughters of Annie Williams, then widowed and remarried Mr Pearson.
