Hi Ginny.

Spooky!!

Remember John Rochford in this thread married Frances Donley, well later on around 1905/6 ish he worked at The Thomas Ward firm in Sheffield and lived in one of the company houses.

So John Rochford worked with his wifes brother John Donley maybe!.

Thank you Ginny, this is really good stuff.

Good morning.

As you can see i have this thread going on Frances Donley / John Rochford.

I want to also find out about boar war info on John Rochford and ww1 info on John Donley.

Question is do i start a new thread on this subject or keep it within this thread.

I do not want to undermind the VERY HARD WORK everyone has done Dea, Moureen, Ginny and Barbara, on this thread for me as they are working so hard on my behalf.

Thank you Simon Holland.

I think this is fab news because as near as it could be without yet seeing Eda's birth certs it ties Eda W ? Sarah Donley nee Lord and France Donley together, just hope that edith W mothers maiden name is Sarah Lord.

I am over the moon, but like Maureen is feeling, i need to tie Sarah Lord to Whittaker Thorpe Whittaker and then them splitting up and Sarah marries John Donley.

Oh n Help!!!!!

MaureeninNY Report 13 Nov 2009 14:19

Simon,
I have no doubt that Sarah is Eda's mother. It's just that she (Sarah) never seems to marry any of these chaps,so it's difficult to tell which Sarah LORD (or whoever) she really is.

Just as an aside-who knew there were so many Whittaker WHITTAKERs........

I agree Maureen, the nearest we have come is her living with John Donley and Cad(Eda) in Manchester he was a tailor as he was when Frances got married.

No Marriages can't work it out!

Whittaker Whittaker never heard it till last week, and thorpe thrown in!

I will keep on the trail.

Wow Simon - Great news - it is looking very good now.

I have lost track a little though so I am going back through all of the thread to try to 'sort it' in my head again.

We are 'almost' there!

In the meantime can you post ALL the details from that marriage cert please - date, addresses, ages, fathers, occupations etc and any other witnesses - just so we have it all together to follow through.

Thanks,

Dea x

June Report 13 Nov 2009 18:44

Hi Simon,

I think you should wait for the birth cert incase Sarah was married before and Lord is not her maiden name.

Well it's arrived.

Eda's birth certified.

Name if any: Eda
When and where: 17th April 1874, 1. Court Chadderton Road.
Name and Surname of Father: Whittaker Thorpe Wittaker.
Name,Surname and Maiden name of Mother:Sarah Whittaker, formerly Lord.
Occupation of Father: Iron Turner.

I think this all fits, i am sure on one of my search's i saw WTW as iron turner, i can't find it now.

Simon Report 14 Nov 2009 11:26

Just looking at the census for 1871.

WTW was aged 35 years old, living with Betty wife and children also others at the address.

I am sure i did see a marriage for Elizabeth (Betty) Lord to a Whittaker, i wonder if WTW had a fling with his wifes sister Sarah !! just a thought.

I have also noticed next door are a Lord family but no SArah, Sarah would have been about 20 years old then.

Does this help!

Simon.
