My GGrand parents Christopher (Festus) Connolly Came to Australia From Galway Ireland, he was born in 1826. I don't know when he left Ireland or where he got off the Boat when he arrived here. But He Married Mary Faherty in Brisbane in 1863. Mary Born in Galway 1842, left Ireland when only 16 after arrival here she met Christopher and Married him in 1863.I have looked every where and can't find any departure from Ireland, or arrival records in Australia. For either of My GGrandparents. Does any one have any suggestions as to where I might Find the Information I need. Kind Regards Elaine.

Hello Elaine,
You could try the web site for NSW Australia, as the whole east coast was NSW until 1851.
www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyhistory/historical/indexes.htm
Good luck.

Theres just too many people with that name to pin him down. Do you know who he went to Oz with, parents etc...

The chances are he wouldnt have sailed form Ireland, more likely he took a ferry to Liverpool and went on from there

Hi Elaine.

I also have Connolly in my own family tree.
Its a hard surname to track down in shipping records because of the variations of the surname. CONNOLLY/CONNELLY/CONNOLY/CONNALLY/CONOLLY/ O'CONNOLLY

I noticed his surname on the Q.L.D marriage index was "CONOLLY"

I dont know if you have your Christopher CONNOLLY's death cert?.......but it should have on it how long he has been in the Colony, which would at the least help narrow down the year of his arrival to Australia.

Thank you all for your Help, I found out My Ggrandfather Festus Connolly actually came out to Australia as a Convict on the second last Convict Ship from Ireland to Australia The "Havering". This was during the famine in Ireland, Festus and some others stole cattle to feed their Family. He served some of his term in Dublin Goal . Now I'm looking for information about the Girl he married several years after he arrived here. She was Mary Faherty, also from Galway, she was the Daughter of Peter Faherty and Mary Gavin also from Galway.Peter Faherty was a labourer in Galway. This is the information on My Ggrandmothers death Certificate. I did get their Marriage Certificate but unfortunately there was no information as to where in Galway they came from or anything about their Parents. My Ggrandmother was born in1842 and Left Ireland when she was 16. I have searched everywhere and cant find what ship she came to Australia on or the reason she left Ireland. any help would be greatly appreciated. :-(
