Find Ancestors

Can anyone help or advise me, my late mother was adopted in the early 1930's she was told at 18 but never knew the details. She was curious as I am now and only want to know where and what name she came from is there any way of finding out.

hi. I think that the only way to find out for sure is to access her adoption records which will give you her birth name. However i dont know if you would be able to as you are not the adopted person. There are some people on here who are really good at adoption stuff so you may need to wait for them to come along to give you some advice.

No ,the information is only released to the adopted person themselves..the file will be permantly closed now due to the adoptee no longer living.

My pal's father was adopted in January of 1929,at 9 weeks old. His birth mother's "intended" was a soldier,who had suddenly died of malaria whilst serving in India,at the time she was pregnant. She was unable to keep the baby ,as she was an Elementary School Teacher,and would have lost her job,and she wanted him to have a better start in life, and for his future too.
Among his birth mothers circle of friends was a Benedictine nun, Sister Mary Birbeck, who was known as a "Sister of Mercy", helping the poor in that area(Leeds and Pontefract).
Can anyone please help me find the "organisation" Sister Mary would have worked for ,or how I can find details of his adoption.I have his original birth certificate, and at the very right it says "adopted", and the name of the interim superintendent registrar, but no date of adoption.

Only person who was adopted can access the files.......if he is deceased, the files are closed.
