Wendy Report 4 Apr 2013 17:51

Hi Derek,

That's OK I do the same sometimes,

Millicent 1829 is the granddaughter of Millicent 1788 who is the niece of Millicent (Milla) 1750. I have got all of the Wymeswold's Bryans from Joseph 1810 son of Millicent 1788 just about sorted.

Thank you so much for the Luin info I'll now add them to my tree and see what else I can find.

Again Thank you dont know where I be without you.

Wendy

:-D :-D :-D

Edit: The Zipporah Bryan whose burial you found could be the one christened 4 Sept 1805 St Margaret Church, Leicester daughter of Edward & Ann Bryan so don't know if the are connected to the Walton Bryans

Derek

Derek Report 4 Apr 2013 16:38

Sorry....yes it was Millicent..my scribble looked lie Wiili........James Bryans wife Hannah Smith was buried 03.01.1812..his daughter Millicent..marries October 1812...and I suppose there is no reason why he should not have married another Hannah....after all he livved on for another 17 years....

..and yes there are a lot of the Bryans at Wymeswold including Joseph and his family........so Millicent 1788 is the niece of Millicent 1750...and the mother of Millicent 1829..????

MARY LUIN was the daughter..one of three daughters of EDWARD LUIN and MARY nee SLOT who married 15.10.1701

Mary Luin was born 22.04.1710 and baptised 25.02.1714..her sisters were Elizabeth and Susannah, and a brother thomas..all from TurLangton Leicestershire........Edward Luin was born 1679 at Woodhouse near Loughborough son of William Luin.............Its difficult to chase because of the similarity to Lewin..although Luin appears quite distinct.

Hi Derek,

Thank you so much that's all a big help. I can do the Willoughby marriages at Nottingham archives. I think some of the Bryans went to Wymeswold.

Just a one thing to clear up you put William son of Joseph and Hannah christened 7 Dec 1788 Pristwold but I have it as Millicent being christened.

Also Millicent Bryans married William Lacey on 21 Oct 1812 snd at same time there was a James Bryans & Hannah Hall getting married would this be James the father's second marriage.

It was Millicent's son Joseph who married Mary Blout

Would be interested in anything you have on Mary Luin.

Again Thank you so so much you are a star.

Good morning Wendy.........further to last night's saga..one or two things that might be of interest to you.

The Bryan(s) family seem to have left Walton on the Wolds after about 1813 except for the odd burial I sent you last night.

There are 14 Burials at barrow on Soar between 1820-1870..and there are 12 marriages of Bryans..with the "s" at Willoughby on the Wolds 1727 - 1824'

Having had a quick shufti around that neck of the woods..there are a large number of villages in a relatively small cluster,,,,,,,,,,,and masses of bryans!

I guess only ou will know which, if an, are yours.

EDIT..THe Joseph Bryans father of Millicent..married mary Blount 22.08.1828 at Wymeswold..where he appears to have been born 1811......

Hi Derek,

No I don't have access to Walton on the Wolds records, although I found a few christenings on Famlysearch but don't like the new site. And found a Leicestershire site with Phillimores for marriages which go up to 1836 but can find nothing for burials.

I would need to go to Loughborough Library to see the parish records which I'm hoping to do in a few weeks time.
I dont have access to trees on Ancestry and when I do only use them if I have too and always check any info they have as I when I have access to trees so many have the wrong info.. It is more John & Mary descendants I'm interested in at the moment.

Don't worry about it as I know you are very busy I can always wait and until I go to Loughborough Library

All the best

Wendy..do you have , or have access to, the Walton on the Wolds registers????..don't want to send you a load of stuff you already know.....and secondly there is what appears to be....(he says guardedly, having no faith in them)..a fairly decent Bryans tree on Ancestry..which ( have as yet not found fault with!!!....it doesn't have the descendants of John and Mary..but concentrates on the descendants of his brother Thomas......do you have access to that?

Hello Wendy............here are a couple of things that I have confirmed 100%......JOHN BRYANS married JANE BUCKNALL at Walon on the Wolds 04.03.1704..and had load of children..whose baptism dates i have if you want them........interesting how most of the names are perpetuated in the next generation children of John and Mary.........quite a few infant deaths and "replacements"..for instance John 1711 who married Mary Luin was a replacement for a John born 17.10.1708..dies 10.12.1708.....

Hi Derek,

I'm so so so so so so sorry my mistake yes it should have been 1730. It is the family of Walton that I'm doing have all the children for John and Mary they also had a son James born 1757 who is my husband 5th great grandfather, so you are in agreement that John & Mary who married in Calke are the same ones. So we are in business and I can work back a bit more. So anything you can give me help with would be great.

Sometimes Bryans is selpt with s or without, sometimes as Bryon/s or Brian/s

Thank you so so so much

Wendy :-D :-D :-D

Derek

Derek Report 1 Apr 2013 12:57

Hello Wendy........two problems...one is the very few John Bryans..and the very large number of John Bryan without the "s".......also you quote a marriage at Calke Derbyshire 1830.............which actually took place 10.05.1730..between John Bryan and Mary Luin..........again no "s"..........HELP!!!

EDIT........in case your 1830 is aa Typo.....here are some chidlren of JOHN BRYAN (no "s") and Mary..at Walton on the Wolds in the years following 1730:-

Mary 19.12.1736
John 10.12.1738
Jane 16.09.1740
Thomas 16.10.1747
Mille 02.03.1750
Sarah 16.02.1752
Thomas 10.03.1754..............rather wide time scale..but not impossible with no telly!!
FURTHER EDIT.......it seems that jOHN BRYANS was born 1711 son of John and jane nee Bucknall..and he had a brother Thomas 1705 who appears to have married twice and had loads of children.....if any of these are of interest to you..we might be in business

Hi Derek,

I'm looking for John Bryans, of Walton on the Wolds Leicestershire, marriage to a Mary and the only one that I can find is at Calke Derbyshire on 10 May 1830 says he was of Smisby so was wondering if you can find if they had any children there or anything on them before I rule them out or add the marriage to my tree.

Derek Report 26 Mar 2013 21:44

Hello Rita......well you've done pretty well to get as far as you have !!..and I doubt you'll get much further unless any of you ILES people were people of note..or married into nobility.......because Parish Records before about 1550 are very rare indeed..and most of them are totally unreadable.
I think to get any earlier there has to be some sort of Land or Probate records..which you'd only get if the people actually owned property.......

The full extent of the early Ashbourne Records are as follows:-..bearing in mind that only the father's name was recorded, unless the child was illegitimate...

Dorothea 08.10.1594...Bridgeta 06.04.1618 and another Dorothea 12.04.1615..children of NICOLAI ILES.

Stephanus 20.07.1565 son of Stephani

Agnes 08.10.1570..Nicolaus 08.08.1568..and Joanna 14.09.1573..all children of Edmundi

Marriages are very few, and give little information......

Nicolaus 1592 to Joanna Frost
Thomas 1609. to Parnella Towell
Stephen 1564 to Alice.........probably unreadable

There are two early baptisms as Great Longstone:-

Thomas 30.01.1647 and James in April 1652...sons of JOHN ILES.

I'll have a dig around for you, but Ithink you're on the very limit of how far you can get back.

All the best.

Derek.

Hi Dereck

I am try to find info on family with surname ILES. I have on my tree Stephani/Stephen Iles married Alice? 1564 St Oswald Ashbrne Derbyshire. I have also come across Edmundi and Nicolai Iles and wonder if they are related to Stephani.

The only records I have found for possible children of Stephani and Alice are Stephanus baptised 1565 and Thomas Baptised 1576 both St Oswald Ashborne.

I cant get back any further and would like to find parents of Stephani and Alice? and would be grateful for any other info you can find,

Thank you

Rita
