Trying to find a marriage between James Perry B abt 1837, Walsall and Ann Slaney B abt 1845 Lichfield. Marriage was possibly abt 1863 possibly in the Walsall area according to the 1911 Census they had 13 children I can only find 9. I am also looking for their births and deaths. James was last known in the 1891 Census living at 102 Lower Rushall St, Walsall. Ann was last known in the 1911 Census living at 18 Newhall St, Walsall. James was my Great Grandfather and Ann was my Great Grandmother. I have hit a brick wall and any information would be greatfully received

I like it,Choccy. Think you're on the right track. Looks to me like Phillip ANSON was alive all those years so James and Ann weren't likely able to marry.

Interesting!!!!!!
On that 1871 Census, the "anson" after James Perry looks as though it was added as an afterthought ........ James and Perry are very clear, then anson is written much smaller, not capitalized, and squeezed in between Perry and space remaining in this column
Meanwhile Ann and the children are very clearly Anson
Do you think the addition of "Anson" to James Perry was a matter of "correctness" added by someone else after the enumerator had filled in the sheet?????

just looking in again ...
Think Sylvia (in Canada) has same conclusion as me that Philip Anson was still alive, so there was no marriage between James Perry and Ann. Possibly James died before Philip, so there was no chance for them to get married.
If there is a connection between the Elizabeth M Perry on the 1901 census, in the same household as Philip Anson, then her birth certificate would maybe help.

Hi Choccy
I just followed your suggestion that Philip Anson might still be alive
...... and I think he was!
I wish I could have found him in 1881 though, just to prove where he was.
That Elizabeth M Perry was a strange one though ...... often you can tell from the positioning on the listing who might be the "parent/s"
but in this case she came right at the end.
If it had been Henry Moore who had adopted her, I would have expected her to be listed ahead of the boarders.
I wonder where she is in 1911???

Thank you all for so much information. So it appears that Ann Slaney was married to Phillip Anson then for whatever reason she then lived with James Perry and as she was already married could not Marry James. I have their first child called Phillip born abt 1863 I would imagine then that he was actually the son of Phillip Anson. The next born was named Henry Anson Perry (my grandfather) that was the name on his birth certificate he was born in 1868 I always wondered where tha Anson came from. Both the Anson & Perry families lived in Blue Lane I presume that how they met. It appears tha James and Ann had possible seperated in 1891 as they are staying at different addresses. The fact that Ann & James were not married could this be why the children are in the Census with the name Anson. I need to find the birth certificate of Phillip Anson born abt 1863 to see who was the father if it is the older Phillip that then proves this is the same Ann Anson /Slaney. Also if I find Anns death certificate that should give me her full names

Thank you to all who helped I found the death of Ann Slaney also her previous marriage to Philip Anson. James Perry Anson was in fact James Perry. In the 1871 Census the son Philip Anson is the son from the marriage to Philip Anson the rest of the children were fathered by James Perry and he is named on their birth certificates. There is no marriage between James and Ann.
