Thomas Gillis was listed in the US army. I now have all info .Thomas mother listed as Maragret Stewart Of Scotland and father listed as Thomas w. Gillis of Peebles,Scotland.on Marriage licence ,Lyons N. Y State. .Still cannot find a birth record. Thank you to all who answered

Thanks for adding that information Louise. I was hoping that he may have used the Scottish naming pattern for his children which may have helped to identify his parents but it doesn't look as if he has.

We do not have any records But he lived near Mount Forest when my father was born . He married Mary Ann Katterman in Upper New York State After the Spanish American War where they were both injured .She was a nurse.Some of the children were .Morris,Francis,John,Margaert,Alvinia,Oscar,Harold (1925 My father) When he signed on for the war he was known as Gillis in 1894.By this time he was 23. We do not know when he came from Scotland.

What names did he give his children please? What is the first record you have of him in Canada?

Trying to find Thomas William Gillis's last name at birth .He came to Canada as a home boy and changed his last name.He was born Galashiels, Scotland Jan 5/1871.Father was born Peebles (no name was given ) mother was born Warwickshire ,England(no name was given) We are hoping that his first names are correct.We do not know what year he came ,but by 1894 he was known as Gillis.
