Hi Everyone

I have seen this info before what I can't do is link William Heatley to John Heatley born in 1813.

I am convinced somehow that William Heatley of Brindle Hall is an uncle or great Uncle of John Heatley.

There seems to be masses of information but not enough.

Chris Ho :) Report 4 Apr 2011 17:44

So are you saying you have read the Will of William 1841, to rule out if by chance there was mention of a John Heatley, Surgeon...

Incidentally, the John Heatley, Surgeon who died 1867, didn't seem to leave a Will, on checking Probate Index, Ancestry.

Have you seen Jonesey's Newspaper Thread on Tips Board?, by joining Lancs. Library (free to join) you can then search newspapers. If you already haven't.

Chris :)

Chris

I havn't read William Heatley's Will no.
I need to back to Preston one day.

John the surgeon seems to have died penniless. His wife and son had very lowly paid jobs and lived in poverty when he died.

I will check the newspapers.

Many thanks for your advice.

You cannot read William Heatley's will at Preston. Your only options are to download it (£3.50) or send for it (£5). Preston only hold wills pre 1858 for those proved in the Archdeaconry of Chester (and sometimes Richmond) but not Canterbury.

I don't think all wills are on ancestry. I am fairly sure I have some which do not come up on ancestry. It is worth checking the probate index on fiche in major libraries and record offices

Ok
I will buy the will to see if it mentions any of the Heatleys I have in my tree.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 6 Apr 2011 22:45

his death announcement is in the Leeds Mercury

Heatley - On Oct 13th age 56 John Heatley esq surgeon of Barnes Green Blackley

almost the same wording in the Blackburn Standard

Simon Report 7 Apr 2011 22:00

Thanks Ann
I will look that up.
Still a mystery who is parents were.
I still have relatives in that part of Blackley even today.

I wonder why his death would be reported in Leeds and Blackburn?

Something is odd here

Can't find his parents and his wife and family died in poverty.

lancashireAnn Report 9 Apr 2011 22:05

did you download the will?

Simon

Simon Report 9 Apr 2011 22:18

Yes

Nothing of interest

No mention of brothers or nephews.

Left his money and estate to his neice Catherine Eastwood.

So he had a sister who married and Eastwood or Catherine married an Eastwood

Simon Report 9 Apr 2011 22:27

I also read this

http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=53075

It states Williams father was James Heatley.

He would have been born in about 1740

He could be John 1813 grandfather or great grandfather

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 9 Apr 2011 22:41

pity - at least you have confirmed his niece

Simon

Simon Report 9 Apr 2011 22:43

Yes, but it is John Heatley 1813 descendents I am interested in.

William Heatley would be a bonus because his family history is documented back to the 1600's

Still looking for John Heatleys parents and siblings?

Simon Report 21 Apr 2011 19:26

Ann

Thanks

Catherine Eastwood was the niece of Captain William Heatley who died in 1840 and was a Catholic Church benefactor.
Catherine was left Brindle Hall and lodge in his will.

So Catherine went to live in London.

John Heatley was trained as a surgeon in London but practiced in Manchester.

I do not know the connection of Catherine of Captain William to John Heatley but I believe there is one and if I can find it then that will lead me to who John Heatley's parents or siblings were.

Simon Report 21 Apr 2011 19:49

I wonder if there are any clues in the witnesses at John's marriage.

Marriage: 19 May 1836 St George, Chorley, Lancashire, England
John Heatley - Chemist and Druggist of London in the county of Middlesex
Ellen Jackson - Spinster
Witness: John Roskell Arrowsmith; L Lucas; Ann Heatley; E Craven
Married by Licence by: Thos. Todhunter Minister

and the people who I believe are his parents.

Marriage: 25 May 1809 St Leonard, Walton le Dale, Lancashire, England
John Heatley - Preston Corn Dealer
Mary Heys -
Register: Marriages 1807 - 1809, Page 5, Entry 109
Witnesses
Thomas Gregson, JNo Talbot
Henry Smith Wheelwright, Elizabeth Craven
Source: LDS Film 1656765

Well well well

an E Craven and an a Elizabeth Craven

Are they the same person and who was she?

Who were the other witnesses.

The reason why I believe Mary Heys was John's mother is that all John's children had Heys as their middle name.

I have not been able to find Mary or John Heatley on any Census or on IGI
I have also been to Preston twice.
I have no proof they are Johns parents.
Also I havn;t found any other siblings.
