OK Thank you for that. Life hands us some awful thumps sometimes, doesn't it??!

I will ask you to tell me the date of your mother's remarriage.

I am rebuilding the electoral roll information.

Have you started a tree on GR. Yes you have I just remembered. OK as we go along enter the information we find in your tree. Or you can draw it up first on paper. There will be spaces on the screen to add in addresses etc. if you wish to keep track of that info.

AuntySherlock Report 5 Apr 2010 10:05

1936
Eric George Horne, labourer
Evelyn May Horne, home duties
Sydney George Horne, packer all living at 3 Bede Street Lidcombe.

No others on the same page.

Edit: This bit is added after. Went back and checked out Hilda

In 1936:
Hilda Horne, Home Duties 13 Appian Way Burwood
George Edmund Horne, mechanic and
Violet Elizabeth Horne, home duties, at 57 Brighton Way Croydon NSW

Remember the caution, these might not be related. We will follow them up later.

1937

Sydney George Horne, packer
Evelyn May Horne, home duties
Leslie Bede Horne, labourer
Eric George Horne, labourer, all living at 3 Bede Street Lidcombe

The other person on the page
Hilda Horne, home duties, 32 Tilba Street Lidcombe. Will go back and check her out on the previous roll in 1936.

Just had a thought. Do you know Google Maps. It might be informative to put these addresses into Google Maps and find out where these places were in relation to each other.

AuntySherlock Report 5 Apr 2010 10:22

1943

Sydney George Horne, packer, Government Road, Hilltop, Picton Area NSW.

Eric George Horne, labourer,
Nancy May Horne, home duties 3 Bede Street Lidcombe
Evelyn May Horne, 86 Oxford Street Lidcombe

John Horn has dropped the E from his name so we might discount him.

Oh and yes the brain has just clicked into gear.

This is your dad and your mother living in the house your grandparents lived in. Your grandmother has moved to Oxford Street and your grandfather, Sydney George has gone to the Picton area.

Now remember it is 1943. It is the war years. I wonder if him being at Picton is in someway tied to the war.

AuntySherlock ,you have stated that Sydney George Horne was in the Picton area in 1943 thats funny because i dont remember seeing him,and we were there nearly every day maybe he left her i think i was told he was at work.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 5 Apr 2010 10:41

Worry not at this stage. It is not impossible that there was another Sydney George Horne in existence, so the one at Picton might be one of those horrible red herrings fate will throw in our path.

Valma Dorothy Horne, retoucher.

Leslie Bede Horne, no occupation, is with
Dora May Horne at 130 Joseph Street, Lidcombe

Note your post about Violet, George etc. We will discard that lot later. Almost finished with this electoral roll business.

I need to ask if you wish me to post your mother's information for 1949. It is available.

PM from Janice agreeing to the information being on the thread. Will add later.

Now we start putting the people together.

Here is Leslie's marriage.

By the way you can have fun with this as well. Just google the NSW birth, deaths and marriage site. Find the search option and put in the details. You will soon get the hang of it and you can look at which certificates you wish to order OR PLEASE READ THIS. A far better option is to find the Joy Murrin transcription site and get copies of your certificates from them. It is much cheaper and they are really quick and accurate.

OOooops sorry. Yes of course. You don't need to be here every minute. Go to bed. Just check in again sometime tomorrow or the next day. Whatever I find won't go away so just take your time to go through it. And yes I find printing it off helps.

These are the death and cemetery notices. I will post them as a group and then return to fill in other information if there is any.

I do not think this burial is your family. This Dora May Horne was married to Archie Horne in Mereweather which is up near Newcastle NSW. Here is the marriage.

Just found one thing we need to check. Dora May Davidson married Leslie Horne.

Her nee name on burial was Dora May Horne nee Wilmott. There is also a mention of a person called Archie.

I have edited the information above do not think this Dora is Leslie's Dora.

Hello Janice [and AuntieS]. Just to say that I am watching the development of this thread with interest and respect! I am sure you are going to be very happy with the outcome Janice - take it slowly though!

Regards to all. Cx.

AuntySherlock Report 5 Apr 2010 14:21

Hi Cynthia, Thanks for your interest and good wishes.

I have asked Janice to go through the information and match it to what she knows, then if she wishes to source transcripts of the certificates which will fill in more of the gaps.

I'm also hoping JaneyC still has the info prior to the marriage of Sydney and Evelyn. The bdm and census from UK and anything about the great grandparents. I did not keep any of that.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 5 Apr 2010 14:46

Here is Sydney's birth in NSW in 1890.

Registration Number Last Name Given Name(s) Father's Given Name(s) Mother's Given Name(s) District
25239/1890 HORNE SYDNEY G JOHN JESSIE NEWTOWN

If Evelyn was 67 when she died in 1960 her date of birth would have been approximately 1893. That is searchable in NSW BDM. I can not find her birth in those records. She was either born in another Australian state or immigrated from UK.
