Hi Vivienne.
I noticed there were 3 BINT surnames transported to Australia.....apart from the two you listed........All three Convicted at Berks Assizes.
Joseph BINT ( Ship: Malabar) Henry BINT and a Josiah BINT both on same ship ( Mangles ) in 1824.....( all brothers or cousins ?? ) so have listed what i can find on the three.
With "Conditional pardons" or "Cert. of Freedom" they were allowed to move throughout the country
******************************************
Joseph Bint, one of 170 convicts transported on the Malabar, 14 June 1819.
Sentence details: Convicted at Berks Assizes for a term of life. Vessel: Malabar. Date of Departure: 14 June 1819. Place of Arrival: New South Wales. Notes: "MALABA" Arrival Sydney,29th October 1819 of the ship 'Malabar'.....Captain Asque with 170 male prisoners. ........Touched at Rio de Janeiro. 4 months on the passage out to N.S.W
BINT Joseph Tried: Berkshire ass... Ship: Malabar....T.O.L..( Ticket of Leave ) ..No date
District: Parramatta...N.S.W
C.P ( Conditional Pardon ) 31st Dec 1836
1828 Census of N.S.W has no reference to a "Joseph BINT". However, there is a reference to a "Joseph BENT" convict, aged 28 ..Protestant,who arrived on the "Malabar" and living in the "Parramatta" district in 1828....assigned to a Mrs Sarah Harris as a servant. The surname BINT could be mistranscribed or mis-spelt....... BINT/BENT/BUNT........so i would hazard a guess in saying Joseph Bent and Joseph Bint are one and the same person. Plus, there is no reference to a Joseph "BENT" listed on the ship Malabar
Its also possible he changed his surname from BINT to BENT, as this was not unusual for "ex-convicts" to re-arrange forenames and/or surnames to obtain work. Also...as Joseph obtained his CF in the district of "Parramatta"
There are no references in any state of a marriage or death for a Joseph BINT
In saying this, there is a marriage for a Joseph BENT in 1835 in... N.S.W which might be worth investigating?.....Convicts were allowed to marry or re-marry even if they had a spouse back in the U.K ( but they needed permission ).....as they were not allowed to return home to England with just a CP. ( Conditional Pardon )
V1835242 129/1835 BENT JOSEPH spouse: WARD CATHERINE
*****************************************************************
Henry Bint, one of 190 convicts transported on the Mangles, July 1824.
Sentence details: Convicted at Berks. Quarter Sessions for a term of 7 years. Vessel: Mangles. Date of Departure: July 1824. Place of Arrival: New South Wales. Notes: "MANGLES" Arr: 1824 28th October....Captain John Coghill, master. 190 prisoners. Guard consisted of Col. Thornton, 40th Regiment, Lieutenant Dalrymple. 57th Regiment.
Colonial secretary papers: BINT Henry. Per "Mangles" 1824 1824 Oct 30th....On list of convicts landed from the "Mangles" and forwarded to Bathurst for distribution.
T.O.L.......( Ticket of Leave ) BINT Henry.... ( No Date ) District: Bathurst...N.S.W
C.F ( Certificate of Freedom ) 28 Apr 1831
Death reference found in state of Victoria for a Henry BINT. ( ages and birth place would be approx..........pending on information given by informant, and how much they knew about deceased )
BINT, Henry..........CD 65812 Death Father: Unknown Mother: Unknown Age at Death: 32 Birthplace: Lond Reg Year: 1858 Reg State: Victoria Ref Number: 3619
*************************************************************
Josiah Bint, one of 190 convicts transported on the Mangles, July 1824.
Sentence details: Convicted at Berks. Quarter Sessions for a term of 7 years. Vessel: Mangles. Date of Departure: July 1824. Place of Arrival: New South Wales.
Colonial secretary papers: BINT, Josiah. Per "Mangles", 1824 1824 Oct 30th.....On list of convicts landed from the "Mangles" and forwarded to Bathurst for distribution

Hi Lisa.
Tasmania is a completely different State to Western Australia.....so i assume you mean he was transported to Western Australia.
Yes...looking at what references i can find, it would be a one way ticket....lol
Without an A.P ( Absolute Pardon ) your George COLLINS would not have returned to England. References below show this George Collins received a C.F ( Certificate of Freedom ) in 1876 which meant he was allowed to remain in Australia, and possibly New Zealand only.
There were 20 George COLLINS transported to Australia.
The one you mention: George Collins, one of 306 convicts transported on the Corona, 13 October 1866.
Sentence details: Convicted at Yorkshire, Beverley General Quarter Sessions for a term of 10 years. Vessel: Corona. Date of Departure: 13 October 1866. Place of Arrival: Western Australia.
Freemantle Prison data... Western Australia ( Birth date could be an error? ) COLLINS, George Convict No 9126 Ship Name: Corona Ship Arrival Date: 22 Dec 1866 Birth Year: 1824? Literacy lit Religion: RC Sentence Place: Beverley Length of Sentence: 10yrs Crime: larceny
T.O.L ...Ticket of Leave Date: 18 Apr 1872 C.F...Certified Freedom Date 8 Jun 1876 Certified Freedom Place: York ( Western Australia ) Comments: General servant, worked for self 1875
There were 67 deaths for a George COLLINS in Australia up to 1900
The only George COLLINS deaths i can find in Western Australia were.( Given that age is incorrect )
COLLINS, George CD 169808 Death Age at Death: 45 Reg Year: 1876 Reg State: Western Australia Ref Number: 8919
The other was in 1908, but this would make him 109 years old when he died? ( if born 1799 ) COLLINS GEORGE Male District: YORK ( Western Australia ).... Reg No: 15.....Year: 1908
The only other death that comes close, given his birth was 1799.... was in the state of Tasmania. COLLINS, George CD 169799 Death Sex: Male Age at Death: 70 Death Date: 08 Mar 1870 Reg Year: 1870 Reg State: Tasmania Ref Number: 169

Hi Trevor.
This is the only information i can find on West BARNES.
West Barnes, one of 199 convicts transported on the Maitland, 26 August 1843.
Sentence details: Convicted 4th March 1843 at Lincoln Assizes for a term of.... life. Vessel: Maitland. Date of Departure: 26 August 1843. Place of Arrival: New South Wales and Norfolk Island. Ref: Microfilm Roll 91, Class and Piece Number HO11/13, Page Number 400

Convict Details:
Barnes, West Convict No: 3093 Married. Transported for: Assulting his wife with intent. Surgeon Report:.... Unsound mind. Voyage Ship: Maitland Voyage No: 364 Arrival Date: 08 Feb 1844 Departure Date: 26 Aug 1843 Departure Port: Plymouth
Written on Surgeons report.... "Commutation" Meaning: The change of a penalty or punishment by the pardoning power of the State; as, the commutation of a sentence of death to banishment or imprisonment.
Muster of Norfolk Island - August 1844 Period of Labor 30 months Station of Gang: Norfolk Island Remarks: Disharged to Lunatic assylum..Sydney ( date not given ) 2nd condition...8th Aug 1849 Remarks: Filed with death report. ( date not given )
This asylum could be Parramatta or Tarban Creek Asylum ( Sydney )
Interesting info on Surgeons report under "Remarks" ( Filed with death report )...so it appears he was deceased not long after 1849.?
Cant see a death for him registered in N.S.W.....but there would be many hundreds if not more, of unregistered deaths of convicts, and unmarked graves.
For further checking or enquirey you could try: N.S.W State Archives.

On looking at a database I have for this line, I see that Sarah KEMPTON was his 2nd wife and Mary Pashley was his 1st wife.
This I expect is my Charles' death:
HOWES, Charles CD 420887 Death Father: Charles Mother: Eliza Age at Death: 76 Birthplace: Norw Reg Year: 1876 Reg State: Victoria Ref Number: 213
but his mother is noted at Eliza and not Ann. Maybe he father married twice also. I will look it up this end.
I am not sure where Ann fits in because she was this Charles's mother. Charles' father and a son were called Charles. His parents were not in Oz but his son was born there in 1835, the mother being Sarah Kempton. There is no other Ann it could be.
Anyway Thank you so much for all the information it is very much appreciated. It is amazing what you can discover.
Regards
Fi
