I had a look at 1911 - there's one kid that died, so seeing as all the other births were rego'ed in the St Marys subdistrict of Reading RD, I tried looking at deaths infant deaths 1898-1911 rego'ed in St Marys, and then matching births - 3 possible kids

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 22 Dec 2011 14:05

Ok.....

Jack Wicks is my grandfather on my mothers side.
I have his Birth & Marriage Certs.

His parents John Wicks & Emma Fuller.
I have their Marriage Cert.

Johns father is George Wicks a labourer....

Thats all I know...
I do not have Johns birth cert...as I don't know which John he is...but I blieve this is most probably him.

Births Mar 1876
WICKS John Farnham 2a 91

But I cannot find him in the 1881 census..I think I have found him in the 1891 census but he is not at home..so it doesn't help with finding his parents.

So I am at a dead end right now.
I have ordered the above birth record...but I doubt it will arrive until next year!!.

Ho Hum!!

Have you tried to contact the person who made the correction to his birthplace (on the 1891 census) on Ancestry?

Yes....I'm thinking it most probably is.....
There appears to be no other that comes close....so
I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and buy the birth cert.

Ho Hum!

Thanks Astra for your time. :)

Astra Report 20 Dec 2011 13:39

Hi Paul
Sorry i missed the bit about you having his marriage certificate.
Aldershot was covered by the Farnham District so it could be the correct one.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 20 Dec 2011 07:44

Hi Astra...

I do have the marriage cert...his fathers name was George & was a labourer...as I stated.

But I can't find John in the 1881 census so as to find out his mothers name and where his parents came from. Or if he had sibblings.

I think the above 1891 census is him...but hes not at home..so its no help.
He was born in Aldershot...so the census says....but I can't find a birth.

Though there is one in Farnham...which is not far from Aldershot....

Births Mar 1876 ??
WICKS John Farnham 2a 91

But again..means paying out when Im not sure if its him. :(

Thanks anyway.

Dea Report 18 Apr 2010 10:23

How frustrating - there are 2 lots of Army records and 2 lots of Pension records for John on Ancestry.

They confirm his wife and children right down to Florence May but they stop short of when Jack was born...... dratt!!

It does give their address as 11 Hope Street, Reading right up until 1917 in case that helps to connect with Jack's birth cert?
