Does this area cover Greenwich/Gravesend. I am looking for parish birth of my 2xGrandmother Mary Ann Pettit Queen. b about 1831 according to census. Different census say she was born in Greenwich and also Shoreditch. I think Greenwich at one time came under London. I have found one parish record for a Mary Ann Pettit Pettit 4 Oct. 1841 St. Leonard, Shorditch, Hackney. Record said Mary aged 11 years so age would be right. Could be mistranscribed but parents given as James Pettit (should be Queen, as on Marry's marr. cert.) his occ. Mariner) and Mother as Mary Ann Queen. Could names be muddled as much? Any help would be much appreciated.

I would be grateful if you could look for Henry Jones dob 1867 in Flintshire who worked in the Woolwich Arsenal as a Blacksmith/Striker from approx 1900 to 1902

I have very little info, his widow remarried in 1902, so I am very vague sorry

The family I found had a daughter called Agnes born Sheerness, but if you look at the Forces birth for Charles you will RA next to his name, and Agnes has RE
RA Royal Artillery
RE Royal Engineers
So unfortunately not the same family.
Ive been searching for a book I have all about the Royal Artillery its an old book and in it it has the movements of all the troops, hopefully if I find it I might be able to see where he went. If he had been an officer I would have been able to find him in the Officers Register, but dont give up, I very rarely do. Am going to ring someone up at the MOD tomorrow for you, he has helped me before so hopefully you never know. What I want to find is where the actual records are kept from where that register I sent you are made up.

I have found a possible family for him on the 1851 census .
Military stationed at Woolwich 1851. I have looked through the nonconformist registers for him but nothing yet Im afraid.
Will see if I can find any of the other family from the 1851 census, which may give me more of a clue what religion the
y where.

Am searching today, so hold on. I had a quick look the other day, but couldnt see him. I have to literally look through my fiches page by page so it does take time, the writing sometimes is nearly illegible. But if hes there I will find him

Could all of these children be siblings?
I cannot find another Barker/Hodge marriage in the vicinity?
The only other possible is a Daphne Hodge marrying a Brian Barker in Middlesex 1961.
Would it be worth ordering a token 2 certificates , say Michaels at 1956 and Kevin at 1964?
It all depends on what you know, who brought your dad up, is there no one in your family who would know. Once we have established that this is the correct marriage, it will be fairly simple to go backwards.

Angela born 1961
Roy born 1965
Leslie A born 1960
Carol A born 1954(this I think is a def posibility)
Michael e Barker 1956 (the other poss)
Was your dad the youngest or oldest?
I will search for other Barker/Hodge marriages in that era.

Hi Anne

I am trying to trace my fathers family who i believe came from Woolwich. His name is Stephen John Barker born 10/01/1959 i have had a look on BMD records and could find a birth that could have been his with the mothers maiden name as Hodge. Other info i have was that his mother died when he was nine (1968) which corresponded with a Carol Hodge born in 1935 died 1968 and i also know that i was named after my grandmother. I also have been told he had a brother called Michael but other then that i am pretty clueless

That is really kind of you. This is the right John Oliver.

We shall just have to be patient but will do as suggested.

It is strange that we can't locate him in the 1851 census. His wife and son are in Plymouth but he is not with them.
