Hi Emma,
I wonder if you can help me again. I am looking for Thomas Johnstone who had a son William Johnstone born c1863 in Dumfries, possibly in the Lochmaben area. That's all I have to go on and your help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ian

Hi Emma,
Thanks for the very kind offer,
I wonder if you could find any children born to Annie McLuskey b.1880 and Bernard Greenanb c 1880,they married in 1907 in Glasgow.
If so could you perhaps find their marriages also,
Many Thanks

Sandra,

Is there any chance you have any more information on him as Fleming is such a popular name - I have looked for a marriage of a James Fleming and Annie Lennon and can't seem to find anything anywhere in Scotland

Emma Report 28 May 2010 12:16

Lyne,

There wasn't such a thing as adoption back then - Adoption wasn't recognised until 1930 but I had the same trouble as you are having as my gran was handed over when she was around 6 weeks old - no adoption papers were signed and the only thing we knew was her mothers name - which seemed to be the most popular name around that time (was also my grans birth name).

I've ha d a look for a birth for an Alexander Orr and an Alexander Buchanan and can't find anything about him. I've also had a look on Ancestry and no-one on there seems to have him either.

Illegitimate children are usually registered only under the mother's name although the father's name may be on the birth record.

Sorry I couldn't be much help - I have looked through all the Alexander Buchanan and Alexander Orr births in Edinburgh and none seem to match.

Thank you so much for the marriage and birth for my Heaneys,

Emma,

Thank you so very much - looks very much like the right family for George. I have just had a quick look at the map and Renton is just above Cardross and not far from Glasgow. I can now continue my research and see if I can find exactly when George emigrated.

My warmest thanks for your generous help.

Hi Emma
Thanks for the offer. Can you please look up the birth of Alexander Findlay, he was born about 1892 Edinburgh Midlothian Scotland. His parents never married but their names were John Grieve Orr and Bessie Buchanan. Alexander was adopted by the Findlay Family but I don't know when so I don't know if he was registered in his father's name of Orr or his mother's name of Buchanan. I don't know of any relatives names. Alexander was a member of the Scots Guard. Alexander married Ethel Mary Richardson in 1916 at West Ham, London.
He and his wife and two daughters, Margaret & Joan migrated to Australia on 21/12/1921.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards...Lyne
