It’s a principle thing.. if you say you are going to do something, you should do it. Number 2 didn’t know how quickly I would be back to the post and number 1 may well off heeded their advice and deleted it anyway.

If it says Stoker on something could that mean he was on a ship Stoking as well as a furnace stoker in factory.

Its just that I think I have something I have been searching for ,for a while, and the man says he is "mariner" on census but on daughters birth he is "stoker" and on marriage of daughter he is "fireman"

Does that all add up please?

Big music festival starting tomorrow at the country park just behind our house. Seems like Kathryn Jenkins and Robbie Williams and other notables are giving concerts. Don't ask me who else, I only live here! There are yellow traffic cones sprouting up like mushrooms all over the place.

Also, we have the Manchester to Blackpool cycle race coming through tomorrow morning....now that is horrific - the serious cyclists are fine but the amateurs can be dreadful. How someone doesn't get killed is beyond me. Will have to plan all my routes carefully.

Mariner… obvious he is in the navy, could be Royal Navy or the Merchant

Stoker is an engine room operative. Old days, yes, he would have been shovelling coal into a boiler. I would guess he is in the Navy for the Wedding and the birth.

As for being a fire man…. This could apply in both cases… often.. engine room personnel would act as fire men…….. however… I’m more inclined to say the chap has left the navy and literally become a fireman.
