George James William Lewis MITCHELL is the son of George MITCHELL & Charlotte Mary North WHITE.
I think the enumerator has called her Caroline once instead of Charlotte but she is the daughter of William Motley WHITE and Lucy Lewis ULETT both born in Gloucester.
Charlotte had siblings Lewis William WHITE (married to Caroline FREEMAN) and Agnes Eugenie WHITE (married to Arthur HICKMAN)
William Motley WHITE is the son of John Motley WHITE and Mary (I think NORTH but I have not verified that yet). John Motley WHITE was bankrupted and in the Bankruptcy Notice in the Gazette it gives a list of his various addresses mainly in Birmingham and previously Gloucestershire before his Bankruptcy.
Ernest, Ellen & William MITCHELL who were younger siblings of George JWL MITCHELL were all born London or Middlesex and I think their father died in London about 1890 but I have not checked that yet.

Just found out G J WL Mitchell's father, also George Mitchell had a father James Pike Mitchell so will try and find out about him. Thanks.

I understand now where caroline fits in.
I am away for two days but if you are still having trouble chasing George I will have another try

I have found out that Caroline married Lewis White and it looks as if George J W L Mitchell lived with his grand-parents then aunt and uncle. It's been very difficult to work out. They sound a complicated family - I am having trouble tracing the movements of George J W L Mitchell (1879) father - also called George Mitchell.

Sorry to be a pain but I still think Charlotte might have changed her name to Caroline.All the names match up

Thanks Michael maybe their son George (1879) was staying with grandparents when 1881 census taken and this is why I had such trouble linking everyone together.

On his marriage certificate in 1907 his father is listed as George Mitchell (deceased) architect.

It states that agnes is his mother but looking at the census I think the transcriber just assumed she was his mother

Wow - light bulb moment. I just couldn't work this out. It does look like Charlotte has become Caroline. I can move forward now.

Thanks for very quick reply but I have got his birth certificate and it states his mother was Charlotte Mary North White so this is why I am confused and stuck!

Looks like Charlotte changed her name to Caroline White

My George James William Lewis Mitchell was born 14/01/1879 in Ladywood Birmingham. I am having trouble tracing his parents George Mitchell and Charlotte White. I would appreciate any assistance finding his ancestors as I can't find George Mitchell 1879 until he 1911 census when he was married to Lillian Hoffmann.
