Find Ancestors

Can anyone help me find a marriage or death for my great aunt Gertrude A. (Annie?) Stephens b. 1919 Southampton. I can't seem to find anything for her after her birth. Thanks .

She could have been born late 1918 and the birth registered 1919. Do you know her exact date of birth?

If she lived to 1970, her death record in the GRO index should include her date of birth, at least as known to the informant.

That index can be searched by given name and DOB only, without a surname, and this can often find a match and the surname can then be tracked back to a marriage.

I suspect there are a few Gertrude A. Stephens around! have you tried looking for matches on here using "search trees" above?

There are Smith-Stephens births in Southampton in 1940 and 1948 -- the gap could be consistent with absence during WWII, if the births are to that marriage.

There's no other Smith-Stephens marriage in the vicinity around that time.

Only one of those births is transcribed at FreeBMD so far (1948). If you need the other, shout.

And of course, three people have Gertrude Stephens 1919 Southampton in their trees ................ Had you searched??

Thanks. They are all in my contacts and don't have anything except her birthdate and place. I've found a death for a Gertude A. Smith but she was born in 1906. I'l have to keep trawling through Smith deaths. Could take a while.... I was told that she may have died from a brain tumour so may not have lived a particularly long life. Thanks for your help.

That seems to fit well although her birth reg is 2c 104. Interesting that it's the right birth year though. I wonder if that's her. Thanks for that. I might get her birth certificate and see if the date matches. If it is she lived longer than I thought. Thanks very much.

I've been able to contact a family member who has been able to tell me that Gertrude married Jim Winship and had two daughters Barbara and Susan. I found Susan as a Winship/Stephens birth but I can't find Barbara or the marriage for Jim Winship and Gertrude Stephens. Any help would be appreciated. :-)
