Fergus Report 3 Jan 2011 23:01

I am trying to find out about my uncle and his family. My uncle was James Dawson Lamont. He was born in 1928 in Fearn Angus Scotland. I never met my uncle as my father was given up on birth and never knew anything about his family. My father died in 1987 and I believe that my uncle has died as well.

However, from the sparse knowledge I have I believe he emigrated to Canada sometime in the 50's/60' married and had 3 kids. I have been told that it is believed his wife is still alive but I have no idea whereabout in Canada.

Any help would be gratefully received

Thanks

Fergus Lamont

A bit more info in your gen forum posting.

I am trying to find relations that I have never met, James Dawson Lamont was born in 1928 in Aberdeen Scotland and is my uncle. However I am not sure whether he is still alive. All I know is he married and moved to Canada at some stage, not sure whether he married in Scotland or when he got to Canada.

His mother was a Christina Burness Gourlay Lamont (my grandmother who I never met either) and daughter of a John Thomson Lamont and Jemima Lamont.

Any help or guidance on how I could go about finding out what happened to him would would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Well Fergus,

It dosn't take a lot does it!!!!!!!!! At least now you have what part of Canada he may have settled in.

There are a couple of excellent researchers on here regarding Canada. I would now change your heading (keep this thread so they know the background) insert something like. CANADA BMD's POST 1956 ,and ask their advice as how to get a little further.

Good Luck

Fergus,

I do not have access to Ancestry records, but Quebec Vital & Church Records 1621/1967 have a record in the name of Shirley Dawson Lamont.

No idea what time scale or what type........but it just jumped out at me!

Can anyone with ancestry take a look?

I did check that image but it is very very faint and almost impossible to read.

I don't have the right sub to access the Drouin records, but one can tell it's a 1932 birth for Shirley - whether it's her birth or not, I can't tell.

Does his passage image say where he's actually going?
Disembarking at Montreal usually does rule out the 4 Atlantic provinces, but Montreal was really the gateway to the other 6 provinces.

The baptism of Shirley Dawson Lamont gives father's name as John, can't make out his second name but it's not Dawson, could be Harold.

Thanks ladies, just thought there may be a connection there with the middle name Dawson.....back to the drawing board then!

I really appreciate the time and help given by you all.

Thanks

There's a George Dawson Lamont in Canada but much earlier. He was born 1878 in Ontario. His father Donald was born 1841 in Scotland.
