Sorry missed that. Mary Elizabeth Dean is not a Dean, but a Snape.

Who found that?

Christine2 Report 23 Jan 2011 15:50

Sorry Meg - it was me. I just assumed that, as George Dean and Elizabeth Snape didn't marry until 1878, the birth for Mary Elizabeth would be this one -

Births Dec 1876
SNAPE Mary Elizabeth Salford 8d 35

On reflection though, we think that Henry Snape probably died in 1875 in Prestwich don't we? The death for Henry Snape in June 1878 in Preston that we first favoured gave a different fathers name to the one on the marriage cert.

p.s. There isn't really a birth that fits for a Mary Elizabeth Dean that would make her 4 in 1881 either.

The family are living in Town Street but on the same page there is a Samuel Doar and his family living in - wait for it - Doar's Yard.

Didn't you have a Luke Doar - suspect that all those Doars with biblical names in Sandiacre are related!

Well blow me down with a feather:) I think it's ok to post this link as it says 'Permission granted for personal family history use only' (which is what this is). Scroll down to page 57. Under Luke, you will see that George Rocotti Doar is listed as married to Grace Seal born 1880 in Lanes Salford!! So no wiser than we were lol:)

Chrissie,

Yes Grace did marry Joseph F Baxter in 1937. Ref: 8d 372 Free bdm.

There is a district in Sheffield called Dore :)

Can't remember now but was there a marriage to Henry Snape and Grace?

Michelle has George Doar ( 1819-1893) with his father as being Richard Doar ( 1791-1831) with Margaret Basdale (1785-1842) as Richards wife, both born in Nottingham. And married in Notts. Can you conform? Ta love

Robert

Robert Report 25 Jan 2011 10:52

Do you think there's a connection with those two families anyone...Abraham, George.... Luke ??

They lived in the same area and I'd guess that Sandiachre wasn't that developed in those days huh? So it wouldn't be a massive town more like a tight knit community I'd think....Poss all one family?

Sarah Elizabeth Hughes married (1869) Henry Snape (the rotter) before she married (1878) George Dean as Sarah Elizabeth Snape.

Got to go shopping now but I may be on to something really exciting - a living relative no less. Frustrating as I wanted to carry on but hubby insists that we need to eat (he's not into ketchup butties:)

My problem is that I need help with 1911 census please someone.
I'm trying to find the Ernest Doar who was born in SHARDLOW in 1904. There is only one coming up but I think he may be the one born Basford. I have that family but I can't find the other Ernest. HELP please.

Births Jun 1904
Doar Ernest Basford 7b 218

Births Sep 1904
DOAR Ernest Shardlow 7b 580

That site is great isn't it Rob :) Are there any of yours in those photos? I couldn't remember.

Why do you think Grace died as Grace Dore and not Grace Baxter?

Robert

Robert Report 25 Jan 2011 23:16

Do you think she may of divorced Joseph and went back to her Dore name.
although i would have thought she would take her maiden name of Dean .....hmm pondering ..

Thank you Choccy, that's great. I'm sure it's him.
On the minus side I wanted to know who his parents were and I had run off a list of Doars' in Shardlow. There are too many possible parents to guess which are his.

Not to worry, on reflection this is probably a non starter anyway. The Doar I found living in Sandiacre doesn't appear to have had any children of his own, just step children. There are a couple living in Ilkeston - I may try following them back lol:))

Chrissie, is that Ernest Doar one of my rellies?

Dea, Does that mean MORE certs?? Oooh those poor kids, no more ketchup....and ....and my poor Rottie Chester....well...he's going to have to give up his 20 ounce rump steaks now, he's not going to be a happy dog AT all!!

I suppose I'm going to have to get Luke Doar's birth and marriage cert. Arn't I??

Meg,don't be so nesh :)) Did you have a looky looky at that web site?

God the cost is going to cripple me....Sob!
