I'll live without the index if they will put up some Liverpool & Halifax records - even Todmorden if they can decide whether it is Lancashire or Yorkshire!

footie over so time for bed

hope the Canadian shift has this sorted by tomorrow

Wow Sylvia,

where did you get that from? I mean I've been on Family Search before but not that area of the site...... that's brilliant for sure. Your a cool chick.

Meg ,

yeah lets leave the Sniggering Snape and the shifty Seals alone they are just a pain! Anyway the kids are complaining of hunger and I'm sick of putting more and more cardboard in their shoes to cover the holes.
Can we not get the certs we need from the Family Search site that wonderful person, Sylvia in da Canada found??

And Meg..............it's all about timing and you haven't lost the plot babe
just keep taking the pills hehehe XX

Sarah Elizabeth married Snape, March quarter 1869, Salford

lancs bmd says
Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1869

SNAPE Henry HUGHES Sarah E Salford St Philip Salford C35/1/370

St Philip Salford registers are on that same site that you've just been on.

1869 marriages start on image 49, you need to search Jan 1 to March 31

How did I find it???

someone posted on GR that the records were available, and a lot of my rellies come from Oldham ......... the rest is history!

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Jan 2011 00:19

you may well be able to find many of the certs on that familysearch site

.... saves a pile of money if you do!

Find the registration on freebmd to see when it happend (especially the quarter)

check lancs bmd .... that one gives you the church

the go and search

it's painstaking, but great!

............ found the part of familysearch that has some (not all) images from parish registers in Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire, so you can see the actual image AND print it off

So I believe ...

Sarah Elizabeth (marrying Snape in 1869)
Age 18
Spinster
no occupation shown
Address:- 12 James Street
Father:- William Hughes, Cuttler

... that translates as:

Janey Canuck IS ALWAYS RIGHT AND NEVER LIES!

Yes yes yes.

Not, of course, that this was a particularly difficult bit. ;)

Val1963 - I wish I'd caught you in time -- no harm having mention of the Ancestry tree and the John Edward connection here -- so I'll leave my reply to the message you deleted at the bottom of page 3. ;)

Name of County .... click on Lancashire

I suggest entering it into Favourites when you get to the Name of County page!

Makes it a lot easier

I did have it in My Favourites from when I first found it back last November ...... but that link didn't work today, so I'm re-entering it.

I do know that beta.familysearch has changed its url in the last few weeks.

Thank you Sylvia for those brilliant instructions - I'm in.

I have just been looking to see if the Henry Snape death is in there but it doesn't seem to cover Preston. I did find out from Lancs BMD that the district was Walton-Le-Dale but that doesn't help much.

the burial of the 1878 Henry Snape

Burial: 2 May 1878 St Leonard, Walton le Dale, Lancashire, England
Henry Snape - Son of Thomas Snape
Age: 49 years
Abode: Birch House Walton le Dale
Notes: [Father recorded as] the late Thomas Snape
Buried by: J. C. Kershaw
Register: Burials 1861 - 1880, Page 177, Entry 1412

I think if he was married it would have said 'wife of'

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 17 Jan 2011 14:24

If henry Snape was 40 in 1869 could this one be his death - possibly a more likely area than Preston

Deaths Jun 1875 (>99%)
Snape Henry 46 Prestwich 8d 246

Today has been a wasted day. No exam marking done (way behind), friend whose house flooded dropped in for an hour and stayed four hours, and then I come on here for 10 minutes before settling down to marking - and there is Sylvia's link to all those bloomin' genuine registers - and ALL my rellies come from bloomin' Lancashire and Cheshire.

Thanks a bunch Sylvia. :-)
